The Braidwood Under 10's Redbacks were keen to get onto the paddock on Friday night to take on Broulee. We changed a few positions around to take advantage of Pete Wlasak and Max Waters' running abilities and replaced them with a much smaller front row. The Backs remained much the same however Will Northcott was to have a quiet game after the 2 pies he ate before kick off and a foot injury to Riley Sheriden has ruled him out for the week as well.

Our boys were caught napping in the first few minutes and Broulee scored a try through our normally tight defence. That was enough to get Braidwood fired up. Broulee repeatedly tried to score again, hammering our line with their biggest and best but the strong defence of Braidwood showed them it was not going to be easy. Braidwood constantly drove the Broulee pack backwards in the mauls and our new front row of Matt Royds, Jack Asimus and Adam Craig were playing like loose forwards to help Angus Sherriff and John Sharpe spoil any Broulee ball. Even the referee had trouble keeping up and had to taken off the field with a head injury after colliding with the goal post.

As always, John Sharpe was in the thick of it and pounced on a loose ball from a ruck and ran 30 meters to score a try. The Braidwood team were elated. Max Waters and Pete Wlasak ran the ball up and broke the first line of defence on most occasions and always had our halves of Lochie Ramm, Harry Fry and Whyll Holland in close pursuit. Justin Stubbs had another great game, showing his footwork to confuse the Broulee players with a step and change of direction but as Will Northcott wasn't feeling well, he found it hard to keep up with Justin in support.

Broulee was spoiling our ball and preventing us from getting any continuity. Matt Royds ran the ball from the back of the lineout on a few occasions but was unable to break through. Whyll Holland showed his strength by driving with his legs when caught and preventing Broulee from keeping him still long enough for support to arrive. Max Waters made some great breaks and was unlucky not to have scored and he had Angus Sherriff or John Sharpe in close support. Our driving mauls were a delight to watch, as even the English Rugby team would have been envious.

Broulee finished ahead 3 - 1 but again Braidwood showed the strength of their defence, preventing them from scoring on a few occasions and were unlucky not to have scored again themselves. We will have to try again for a win next week.
