On Saturday night 17 year old Brittney McGlone of Braidwood took a further step to representing Australian by qualifying for the World Junior Championships in Poland in 2008.
Brittney ran a qualifying time of 59.94 seconds, .48 seconds inside the mark, finishing second in the 400 metres open women's hurdles at the Telstra A Series Athletics at Sydney Olympic Park.
19 year old Lauren Boden, who competed at the last Commonwealth Games won the event exactly one second ahead of Brittney.
Brittney must still run the qualifying time twice more in next year's season.
On Saturday, prize money was offered on a few events, and Brittney picked up her first cash prize for her sport of $1,000.
Although the athletics season is drawing to a close, it will be a busy time for the McGlone family, with Brittney competing in a host of horse events at the Royal Canberra Show this weekend, then ACT Athletics Championships the following weekend, then Open National Athletics in Brisbane the next weekend, before settling down to the HSC.
