The Braidwood Redbacks made the long trip to Bombala on Saturday and wished they never had.
The first half was even with Bombala scoring 3 soft tries to our 1. One of theirs coming on the stroke of half time. So going into half time we knew we had to sharpen up or Bombala would run away with the game.
I'm sad to say it did. From the score being 17-7, Bombala scored 36 unanswered points to finish up winning the game 53 - 7.
From going to a team that's defence pictured a solid wall for the last two games, we went to a team that was about as much use as crepe paper.
Our next game takes us on another long trip, this time to Bermagui.
It's the business end of the season now with only two round games to go before the finals and maybe this game was the wake up call we needed.
Points this week: 3 - Nick Hutchenson started the season off slowly but through every game he gets better with the confidence garnered from every positive play, whether it be a blistering run or try saving tackle. Becoming the form back and one of the first picked every week. Scored our one and only try to with quick reflexes and even quicker feet.
2 - Kris Anderson never gave up, even when the Bluetongues were scoring at will. Held his own in the scrum against a much bigger opponent and pulled off some good tackles against blokes that had already run over his team mates, never taking a backward step.
1 - Brendan Maher.
Players Player - Nick Hutchenson got the well deserved double. Well done Nicko.
Hopefully I can report the Redbacks back to their best after our next game.
Correction from last weeks report. Headline should have read "Redbacks Table Toppers Again." Instead of saying we were top of the table. Unfortunately we have not graced the top of the comp since round 4, we are now sitting in third and looks like where we will finish.
Remember boys, training helps.
Till next time,
The Redbacks Reviewer.
