The Braidwood Redbacks travelled down to Milton on Saturday to play the Milton Platypi.
Both teams were going into the game on the back of wins and were looking to extend their good form.
With 21 players answering the call to arms, (a good number for any side travelling away), the Redbacks warm up had the boys switched on and raring to start off where they left off the week before.
Unfortunately for us our pre game talk of wanting to start well did not convert itself to the field with Milton scoring a try within the first few minutes. Honestly, you couldn't find a better wake up call. Did it work? Sadly, no. The Platypi scored another try not long after and with 15 minutes on the clock the home side were up 12-0.
From then on though the ball was played in Milton's half and Braidwood came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but could not cross the line that counts. The boys did well to stay in the oppositions territory with Seamus and Nick returning the ball well from the back and with Kris Anderson and Terry Darcy leaving more than a few bad memories with the Milton boys in defence we were unlucky not to come away with any points going into half time.
I'd like to say that we came out firing in the second half but it wouldn't be fully true. Yes, we did come out and dominate the territory again but the moments where everything clicks avoided us all day. Jake Bourne tried to break the impressive Milton defence, as did many of our courageous lads but there was nothing doing. Ferret and John Steele worked well in a blind side move but Johnno was judged to have toed the line so that was as close as we came to scoring on the board. Final score, Milton beat us 12-0.
In the end the final whistle blew on an ordinary day. I, along with many of the other boys, left the field disheartened and scratching my head, trying to figure out just where the Redbacks were.
On a day where there were no standouts I would like to give a special mention to the young players of our team. What they lack in experience they make up for in outstanding heart. So well done, Kris Anderson, Jacob "Muesli Bar" Harrison, Toby Allen, Seamus Allen and last but definitely not least Mini Bourke. Mini is everything a Redback should aim to be, even though he doesn't know it he is the Redbacks spirit through and through. So well done Mini and well done the rest of you boys.
Points this week went to: 3- Jake Bourne, 2- Benny "Blink and you miss" Stuart, and 1- Mr Reliable, Seamus Allen. Players Player was Jake Bourne. We did win the boat race, with Moffy, Benny and Ricky showing Milton how its done.
Braidwood next take on Broulee at home at 3:00pm. So show up and lend us your support, it would be greatly appreciated by all the boys.
Lastly I'd like to leave you with a quote a wise and, dare I say, annoying man said... Over and over again.
"No Balls. You won't."
