Redbacks lose close one

12 Aug, 2010 12:47 PM
The Braidwood Redbacks travelled down to Bermagui on Saturday and suffered a heart breaking loss.

The game started out well for us with James Button scoring the first try of the game. He was quickly followed by Nathan Moffitt and Jacob Kain. We were really playing with some confidence but as the game wore on, mistakes and penalty's overtook our confidence.

Bermi scored two soft tries just before half time, capping off a bad end of the half for us.

After half time Adam Dixon put through a clever little chip, the ball bouncing perfectly into the hands of Kainy who got his double.

The next 20 minutes then went like this.

Bermi scored. We scored thanks to Johnny Steele. And then Bermi scored again.

Sometimes it would look like we were going to run away with it and then Bermi would score and park in our territory making it hard for us to make metres. Silly penalties and costly mistakes also made it hard for us, and as the clocked ticked closer to the final whistle, we were losing our grasp, not only on the game but as a team as well.

We had one last chance to steal victory with a line out 10 metres out from their line but as had happened for most of the game, it just didn't go our way and one of the Bermi blokes kicked the ball into touch to end the game.

Final score Bermagui Sharks 35 - Braidwood Redbacks 29.

Another game where we, through the efforts of not doing the simple things right, lost the game for ourselves.

The last couple of weeks have not been good for the Redbacks, but we know that we will finish 3rd and play finals footy. We have one final round game against the Bay this week at the rec at 3:00. So hopefully we can find some form again before we take on the other 3 best teams the comp has to offer.

Points this week:

3 - Nick Hutchison once again had a fine game. Marking his danger man with ease and slicing through the defence on his runs. Would have done more damage except he got injured on the stroke of half time. Hopefully he is right for the next game.

2 - Jacob Kain picked up 2 points for his 2 tries and defence at the back. Unfortunately Kainy was making to many one on one tackles at the back after the Bermi players had brushed past our defence. The score could have been a lot different if not for him.

1 - Kris Anderson was once again a stand out in a losing team. Tackled his heart out and always tried his hardest. Would have been useful if a couple of the older Redbacks could have followed one of our youngest Redbacks lead.

Players Player - Kainy picked up the most votes from his mates this week for his tireless all day effort.

Like I said we play the Bay at home this week, so I hope to see you there.

Till next time,

The Redbacks Reviewer.
