There was some very exciting action in all divisions as the beautiful Araluen valley was the venue for the round 12 action! Some teams were still suffering from the Winter Flu Blues but some very willing players played several games in different divisions to help fill the gaps! In the 8 games that were played there was 42 goals scored as a lot of the players are starting to show some nice form with only a few weeks before the finals start!
A big thankyou to Trish Hemler Anthony Stanley and Andrew Stubbs who did a great job in the canteen in the absence of a very crook Lorraine Roberts! Thanks for the help of the referees in Nick Fry Aaron Clarke and Anthony Stanley and the help of Mick and Cara Laney ( Helper of the Week!!) and John and Jack McGlone for helping to pack the nets up!
SUB-JUNIORS
Due to the lack of Subbies the littlies helped out the very much depleted Digemon and Pokemon Junior game and had a great time on the big field!
JUNIORS
Digemon v Pokemon
These very depleted teams were looking grim as the flu struck both teams hard. The Subbies who were well enough to play helped save the Digemon and Pokemon teams playing 3 aside. The game was shortened due to the size of the field and all those little legs were running out of steam in the second half but some great action was played. Best for Digemon were Edward Horan Tom Cairns and Adrian Holcman and best for Pokemon were Cara Laney Lily Morris and Harry McEown. Final score Digemon 6 Pokemon 3
Yugioh v Dragonball Z
The Dragonball Z juggernaut was finally stopped from their impressive form with a comprehensive victory to Yugioh. The game was won and lost in the opening minutes as Yugioh was relentless in attack and got some early goals. Sam Daniher was on fire in front of goal with a hat-trick of goals and Harry Fry managed to score also for Yugioh. Alex Rush was unfortunate to put in an own goal to help Yugioh along for their win. Best for Yugioh were Sam Daniher Joel Croxon and Will Shoemark and best for Dragonball Z were Andrew Barr Tim Corcoran and Jeremy Ramm. Final score Yugioh 5 Dragonball Z 0
INTERMEDIATES
Stingrays v Piranhas
The Stingrays were looking the goods to get an upset win against the highly placed Piranhas as they took a 1-0 lead into the break after Tom Daniher slotted in a neat goal. The Piranhas have been solid all year and never give up and managed to jag back an equalising goal to Patrick Willding late in the second half and give both teams a point. Best for the Stingrays were Lochie Ramm Tom Daniher and Harry Fry and best for the Piranhas were Ty Palmer Ryan Smithers and Matilda Corby. Final score Stingrays 1 Piranhas 1
Marlins v Barracudas
Both teams were struck by the nasty lurgy that's been going around but a very entertaining game was played. The Marlins were playing better as a team though and managed to get on the scoreboard with an nice passing move and great strike from Will Atkinson. The Barracudas were creating chances but couldn't finish them to get them in the game. The Marlins finish the game as they started though and another well constructed goal put the game out of reach for the Barracudas. Best for the Marlins were Kristina Holcman Sophie Richards and Chris Rajapakshe and best for the Barracudas were Pip Sherriff Rowan Brown and Tim Corcoran. Final score Marlins 2 Barracudas 0
Eels v Sharks
The Eels started the game with a cracking goal to Ty Ellison in the first 5 minutes as the Sharks were a little hesitant in defence. The winning of the game was done in a five minute burst from the Sharks either side of halftime as they slotted in 3 quick goals. Josh Fletcher got 2 and Will Northcott 1 and the Eels were shattered. Dylan Crisp gave the Eels a chance to get back in the game with a great solo run and goal but Josh Daniher kept the 2 goal advantage after a nicely worked move was competently finished. Best for the Sharks were Wyll Holland Justin Stubbs and Adam Craig and best for the Eels were Keely Howard Matthew Faulkner and Cameron Pont. Final score Sharks 4 Eels 2
SENIORS
Argonauts v Fireballs
The Fireballs were down to 7 players due to illness and were up against an undefeated Argonauts outfit but the able services of Tom and Josh Daniher Kristina Holcman Brent Laney Chris Rajapakshe Justin Stubbs Wyll Holland and Sarah Hemler from the Intermediates were all outstanding as they made their Seniors debuts. The Argonaunts were complacent in attack and missed some opportunities in both halves that should have given them maximum points but took the lead in the first half by a nicely finished goal from Will Richards. The never say die attitude of the Fireballs was impressive but the Argonauts managed to increase the lead with a neat goal to Olivia Laurie. The Fireballs got one back though with a great goal to Andrew Crisp and with the game heading towards the final stages the Fireballs could sense a sniff of at least a point. The constant pressure of the Fireballs saw Luke Hemler get in behind the Argonauts defence and put a confident strike in the back of the net to get the scores level again. The final minutes were frantic with both teams having chances of getting a winner but the game ended in a draw which the Fireballs can be proud of considering the 8-0 pasting they got last week! Best for the Fireballs were Kate Goodwin Brianna Pont and Chris Corcoran and best for the Argonauts were Olivia Laurie Nathan Oldfield and Jonathon Crisp. Final score Fireballs 2 Argonauts 2
Comets v Meteors
A hard fought game that saw Jodie Balderson open the scoring for the Comets early and the Meteors were looking flat. The Comets missed some chances to take a bigger lead as the Meteors were gradually warming to the task. The Meteors finally took control of the game though and managed to put 3 goals pass the Comets defence to take a hard fought win. Best for the Meteors were Jack McGlone Millan Pintos-Lopez and Jess Willding and best for the Comets were Ben Wlasak Michael Ison and Claydon Williams. Final score Meteors 3 Comets1
ALL AGE
The All Age took on a new format with only a handful of players available and the Subbies field got a good work out as a neat 4 aside game was played. The Greys took on the Green and Reds and the neat passing of the Greys got them out to a 4-1 lead in the first half. The second half was more even and but for some interesting finishing of Kaitlyn Harrison for the Green and Reds who created more chances in the second half the final score was Greys 7 Greens and Reds 4
