Soccer Report Round 12

21 Aug, 2008 02:01 PM
Just a reminder that there will be no soccer this weekend with the mid term break and the round 13 action will kick off on the 30th of August with a run of 4 weeks to our Grand Final/Presentation day on the 20th of September.

A big thankyou to our referees Nick Fry, Luke Hemler and Nathan Oldfield who kept the day running smoothly.

A big thankyou to the volunteers for the canteen. Your willing assistance is appreciated by the 200+ players and families that hit the rec ground each Saturday morning. The round 13 canteen roster is: 8:50 Caroline Evans, 9:20 Jodie Pont, 9:50 Kylie Walker, 10:20 Tanya Brown, 10:50 Nicole Nicholson, 11:20 Lynnette Lavis, 11:50 Garry Richards.

SUB JUNIORS

The good weather saw almost a full playing roster with plenty of our little soccer stars keen to get into the action on the mini field. After some great running, kicking, throwing and shooting practice the Greens took on the might of the Reds in what was a goal fest of a game. Dylan Cairns scored first for the Reds and it wasn't long before there was another 2 goals being pulled out of the Greens goal as the Reds started with a flurry of goals. Elle Bunn, Jessica Watkins-Sully, Johnno Coe and Logan Lo all played well and Darcy Gilbert, Leroy Campbell-Davys and Maxx Bigg all had their good moments for the Reds but Thomas Barrington, Christina Culmone, Zoe Cargill, Laif Whelan and Riley Nicholson had strong games for the Greens all either scoring goals or coming close! Amelia Barrington had a brief appearance for the Greens but was having a lovely time anyway! The Greens raced away with a 6-3 lead at one staged but an avalanche of goals for the Reds late saw the game end up 6-6, I think? Lots of goals and lots of fun.

JUNIORS

Gemfish v Clownfish: Another fantastic end to end game of football with both teams earning the week off next week with the ball never staying still. Congratulations to Josh Story who, aided by some terrific passing from his team mates, was able to score all 6 of the Gemfishes goals. The Clownfish to their credit never gave in and played some nice football as well. Best for the Gemfish were Nick Asimus, Callaum Doyle and Josh Story. Best for the Clownfish were Adrian Holcman, Georgia Grant and Isabella Culmone. Final score Gemfish 6 Clownfish 0

Goldfish v Catfish: Confidence is an amazing thing with the Goldfish scoring their first win last week and turned up to double the dose against the Catfish. The game started pretty even until a defensive error saw the Goldfishes Fynn Walker slam the ball into the back of the net to get the Goldfish 1-0 ahead. It wasn't long before Fynn scored his second and the Goldfish were looking the goods for their second win for the year! A second half goal to the Catfishes Matt Thornton kept the game close but the Goldfish ended the game victorious!! Well done you little Goldies! Best for the Goldfish were Forbes Gordon, Fynn Walker and Toby Mather and best for the Catfish were Matt Thornton Jeremy Ramm and Max Evans. Final score Goldfish 2 Catfish 1

INTERMEDIATES

Spitfires v Bombers: An entertaining and very close first half of football with many scoring opportunities by the Spitfires cut off by the excellent goalkeeping skills of Mitch Bennett for the Bombers. Angus Sherriff managed to sneak in a goal just before halftime to give the Spitfires the lead into the break. The second half was played at a terrific pace with the Spitfires getting a lucky break when they received a penalty for handball in the goal box. Mitchell Roberts slotted in the spot kick to give the Spitfires a 2 goal lead. The Bombers never stopped trying but Mitchell Roberts managed to score his second with a cracking shot in the last minute of the game! Best for the Spitfires were Mitchell Roberts, Jack Asimus and Angus Sherriff and best for the Bombers were Adam Craig, Charlotte Horan and Mitch Bennett. Final score Spitfires 3 Bombers 0

Jets v Roulettes: This was a great game that was dominated by a strong performance from the Jets Angus Bunn. The Roulettes were missing their key player Lochie Ramm but his younger brother Jeremy played up a division and had a great game. Some strong defence from the Roulettes Toby Royds, Josh Story and Ben Howard made the Jets work hard for the goals but goals to Wyll Holland, Ryan Smithers and Angus Bunn gave the Jets an unassailable lead. The Roulettes Harry Shoemark kept them in the hunt for some points out of the game with a nice goal but the Jets overpowered the Roulettes in the end. Best for the Jets were Angus Bunn, Wyll Holland and Ryan Smithers and best for the Roulettes were Emily Lavis Toby Royds and Harry Shoemark. Final score Jets 3 Roulettes 1

SENIORS

Blue Heelers v Pink Panthers: The Blue Heelers have hit a good patch of form with another dominating performance in a tight competition. The top of the table Pink Panthers come unstuck with some simple errors costing them the game. Sam McGlone scored another goal for the Blue Heelers as they start their march up the ladder. Best for the Blue Heelers were Sam McGlone, Kristina Holcman and Brianna Santitto and best for the Pink Panthers were Dylan Crisp, Courtney Doyle and Isaac Jullienne. Final score Blue Heelers 2 Pink Panthers 0

White Pointers v Black Sheep: A solid first half from both teams kept the game level going into the break but the White Pointers young coaches in Troy Harrison and Leith Collard showed them at halftime how to find space and pass the ball and it paid dividends early in the second half. Two quick goals to Tom Daniher and Alex Royds put the White Pointers in front and although the Black Sheep never stopped trying Alex Royds scored his second with a stunning strike from a free kick that sealed the win for the White Pointers. Pat and Brooke O'Connell had strong defensive games for the Black Sheep and all the back played solid games. Best for the White Pointers were Will Northcott, John Sharp and Tom Daniher and best for the Black Sheep were Pat O'Connell, Brooke O'Connell and Jason Nucifora. Final score White Pointers 3 Black Sheep 0

YOUTH

Giants v Redsox: The Redsox were down a few players and the Giants capitalised on their scoring opportunities to give them a lead into halftime. Despite the missing players for the Redsox they managed to take the game all the way to the end and were unlucky not to get a late equaliser in what was an entertaining game of football. Goalscorers for the Giants were Ned Bott, Joel Pearce and Jonathon Crisp and for the Redsox Dylan Crisp and Harley Williams. Best for the Giants were Michael Engemann, Leith Collard and Ned Bott and best for the Redsox were Harley Williams, Luke Hemler and Nathan Oldfield.

Final score Giants 3 Redsox 2

Dodgers v Yankees: The Dodgers were fortunate enough to strike the Yankees a couple of players down and raced to a 2 nil lead with 2 goals to Daniel Ison but the Yankees never gave up and defended stoutly with Jack McGlone scoring their only goal but could have scored more. A comfortable but close win to the Dodgers! Best for the Dodgers were Jacob Camilleri Chris Corcoran and Sam Harrison and best for the Yankees were Bob McDougall Janaya Faichney and Zach Faichney. Final Score Dodgers 2 Yankees 1
