A frosty morning greeted round 8 and some great games of football were played. With round 7 being another washout the kids were keen to get on the field again and considering the amount of rain that has fallen this month the playing fields were in relatively good condition. There was 47 goals scored on the day in all divisions as some very attractive football was played.
Sub-Juniors
No report this week but the subbies look to be having a great time from a distance and well done to all the parents and coaches for keeping these budding soccer stars interested in the game.
Juniors
Dragonball Z v Pokemon
Dragonball Z certainly have found some good form with plenty of goals in this game although Pokemon were brave in defeat. There was plenty of good team work from both sides and some good sportsmanship displayed as well as Dragonball Z seemed to score at each attacking raid. The goalscorers were Tim Corcoran, Jeremy and Lochie Ramm and Birthday boy Harry Evans. Pokemon would have scored but for some great goalkeeping by Andrew Barr and Tyron Henman. Best for Dragonball Z were Jeremy Ramm, Mikaela Clarke and Tyron Henman. Best for Pokemon were Cara Laney, Lily Morris and Shannon Castle. Final score Dragonball Z 7 Pokemon 0
Digemon v Yugioh
Yugioh have been playing well of late and continued their good form as they took on Digemon. Digemon's defence was outstanding at times but Yugioh were relentless in attack and Joel Croxon, Isabella Culmone and Emily Lavis all scored fine goals. Digemon tried hard to score and never gave up but they just couldn't get their shots passed the Yugioh keeper. Best for Yugioh were Will Shoemark, Joel Croxon and Ben Merriman. Best for Digemon were Shania Morgan, Josh Story and Krystal Lo. Final score Yugioh 3 Digemon 0
Intermediates
Stingrays v Eels
The form of the Stingrays has been solid of late but the Eels were able to stop their attack from making an impression on their goal. Dylan Crisp scored early for the Eels and as hard as the Stingrays tried they couldn't stop the attacking flare of the Eels. The Stingrays were rewarded late in the game for their persistence as they scored on the bell but it was all too late for a comeback. Best for the Eels were Mathew Royds, Hannah Cooper and Keely Howard. Best for the Stingrays were Lochie Ramm, Harry Fry and Tom Daniher. Final score Eels 5 Stingrays 1
Sharks v Barracudas
This was a very close and exciting game with both teams playing some really good team football. The Barracudas haven't had much luck this year but Pip Sherriff managed to score a nice goal to keep them in the game. The Sharks have been playing well and Josh Fletcher scored a nice goal as they looked like taking full points out of the game. The Barracudas defence kept the Sharks from scoring again and the game ended in a well deserved draw. Best for the Barracudas were Julia Brown, Angus Sherriff and Peter Wlasak. Best for the Sharks were Bonnie Sherridan, Riley Sherridan and Noah Verdon. Final score Barracudas 1 Sharks 1
Pirahnas v Marlins
The Piranhas have been the team who have set the pace in the Intermediate competition and Patrick Willding was on fire with 4 goals. The Marlins have had some good games this year but had no answers for the attack of the Piranhas. Towards the end of the game the Marlins finally got into a good rhythm and were starting to make in roads into the Piranhas defence but a shot from Patrick Hannaford typified their day when he took a shot from outside of the goal box and as it travelled towards the goal and was looking like going in it hit a clump of grass and deflected enough to miss the goal. Best for the Piranhas were Matilda Corby Patrick Willding and Charlotte Horan. Best for the Marlins were Will Atkinson Dominic Morris and Edmund Morris. Final score Piranhas 4 Marlins 0
Seniors
Fireballs v Meteors
The Meteors were missing a couple of key players as they took on the Fireballs who were instructed to play as a team and support each other. The Meteors defended stoutly but the good teamwork of the Fireballs was rewarded with 2 nice goals before halftime. The Meteors never gave up and kept the Fireball defence busy early in the second half but the Fireballs repelled the Meteors enough times to create another 2 goals to take maximum points. Best for the Fireballs were Eliana Rojas-Terry, Kate Goodwin and Chris Corcoran. Best for the Meteors were Chris Pont, Tashi Wood-Ward and Makayra McAllister. Final score Fireballs 4 Meteors 0
Asteroids v Comets
The Asteroids are undefeated this year and were 3 nil up after just 7 minutes as their rampaging forwards were relentless in attack. The Coaches made a few changes and the game settled down into a much tighter affair. The Comets hit back to get the score to 3-2 but the Asteroids managed another goal to keep a bit of distance between the two sides. The Comets weren't going away though and managed to score again late in the game but time ran out and the Asteroids took the points. Best for the Asteroids were Jacob Camilleri, Will Richards and Jonathon Crisp. Best for the Comets were Michael Ison Ben Wlasak and Jodie Balderson. Final score Asteroids 4 Comets 3.
All Age
The Whites took on the Blues and the Blues had the better of the early exchanges and raced to a 3-1 lead. The Whites slowly started to creep their way back into the game with another goal but the Blues scored 2 quick goals to take a 5-2 lead. The Whites dug deep and scored the next 2 goals to look like getting a draw but the blues capitulated in the end and a hat-trick to Troy Harrison saw the Whites score the last 2 goals and take the victory in what was a great game. Final score Whites 6 Blues 5
That wraps up the first terms rounds of soccer and the first game back is on the 21st of July. Enjoy the holidays!
