Braidwood's soccer season kicked off last Saturday with an absolutely perfect autumn morning and the crowd was huge to watch some entertaining games of football. The kids were all revved up to start playing after last weeks false start to the season due to the rain and some hard fought close games were played in all divisions.
It is important to remember that all players are required to wear shin pads during the games so please bring them along. Also if we can make sure that we can get to the ground at least 10 minutes before your game so we can keep all games running on time and so that your coaches are sure as to how many players they have for the game. Lastly all fees are due to be paid by the end of round 4(26th May) so please make sure that you pay them as your child/children will not be able to play after this date until your fees are paid in full. Thankyou.
SUB-JUNIORS
The future of the soccer club depends on these keen little 3 - 5 year olds and what a great sight it was to see plenty of subbies keen for a kick. Well done to both Georgeanna and Lisa who got them organised and to all the parents who helped out. There is a lot of fun to be had with this age group!
JUNIORS
Dragonball Z vs Pokemon
This was a great game and not a blade of grass on the field was safe from the feet of these very keen junior players. The defence of both sides was outstanding with everyone trying hard to stop the other team from scoring! Luke Verdon had the biggest say in the final score with a fantastic game in goal for Pokemon. Best for Dragonball Z were Harry Fry, Tim Corcoran and Matthew Faulkner. Best for Pokemon were Luke Verdon, Kassie Liversidge and Kelly Liversidge. Final score Pokemon 0 Dragonball Z 0
Yugioh vs Digemon
The pace of this game will keep the coaches out of the gym this week as a tight tussle between two evenly matched teams was played out. The persistence of Emily Lavis for Yugioh was outstanding and a duel royale was set up by Yugioh's Harry Shoemark and Digemon's Lochie Ramm who seemed to be everywhere. In all a wonderful game that went from end to end and down to the final whistle. Best for Digemon were Isaac Quattramoni Tom Cairns and Dylan Drury. Best for Yugioh were Emily Lavis Harry Shoemark and Joel Croxon. Final score Digemon 2 Yugioh 1
A big thankyou to the refs of these games Jonathon Crisp and Michael Ison. Well Done boys!
INTERMEDIATES
Sharks vs Eels
A cracking game of free flowing football was played out by two evenly matched teams. The game went from end to end at times and the players hardly got a break as they kept the ball in play for extended periods of the game. The Sharks were first to score with Will Northcott's shot hitting the back of the net but the Eels Dylan Crisp had a quick reply to get them back into the game. The Eels then hit the lead with another goal from Dylan and seemed to have the Sharks measure until half time. The second half was great to watch as Justin Stubbs slotted in 2 goals to get the Sharks in front but then Dylan scored and his hat-trick was complete and a draw was looking the likely scenario. The Sharks threw everything they could at the defence of the Eels and were rewarded with only minutes to go when Josh Fletcher put them in front with a nice team goal. The Eels tried everything to get another equaliser but the Sharks held on for a great first win. Best for the Sharks were Justin Stubbs Richardo Rojas-Terry and Riley Sheridan. Best for the Eels were Dylan Crisp Liam McClure and Hannah Cooper. Final score Sharks 4 Eels 3
Marlins vs Barracudas
This match was close! Both teams played extremely well considering it was the first game of the season and the big field provided some extra room for the players to realise that they are all a bit unfit. The Marlins played well as a team and managed to take the lead with a great goal from Will Atkinson but the Barracudas hit back and Pip Sherriff scored to keep things level. The Marlins Will Atkinson scored again with a well constructed goal and managed to hang on to the lead to the end. Best for the Marlins were Will Atkinson Kristina Holcman and Jai Coleman. Best for the Barracudas were Rowan Brown Jack Asimus and Pip Sherriff. Final score Marlins 2 Barracudas 1
Stingrays vs Piranhas
This game was a lot closer than the score line would suggest and some great play from both sides kept you on the edge of your seat. The Piranhas managed to take the lead with a great goal from Zach Collins and the Stingrays were unlucky not to hit back quickly. The Piranhas were defending well and the Stingrays just couldn't find the right combination of passes to get them back into the game. The Piranhas finally sealed the win with another good goal to Zach and as hard as they tried the Stingrays ran out of time to take any points from the game. Best for the Piranhas were Ryan Smithers Charlotte Horan and Isaac Jullienne. Best for the Stingrays were Tom Daniher (who was making his return game from a broken leg from last year) Mitchell Roberts and Chloe Stuart-Camenzuli. Final score Piranhas 2 Stingrays 0
A big thankyou to Harley Williams and Corey Pont who did a fine job of refereeing the games!
SENIORS
Fireballs vs Meteors
The Fireballs were on fire in the opening minutes of the game scoring 2 quick goals and leaving the Meteors wondering what had hit them. The Fireballs then scored another well constructed goal and things were looking decidedly lopsided but the Meteors fought back well to score before halftime. The second half was a different story after a halftime pep talk by the Meteors coach and they were first to score in the second half. However the Fireballs managed to score again and kept the game out of reach of the Meteors until the final whistle. Best for the Fireballs were Kaylah Jullienne Luke Hemler and Amy Liversidge. Best for the Meteors were Jack McGlone JR Morgan and Tashi Wood-Ward. Final score Fireballs 5 Meteors 2
Asteroids vs Comets
With the Comets coach away Troy Harrison decided to try his hand at coaching them against his fathers team the Asteroids and the battle began with the Comets looking the better side. They were rewarded with a fine goal from Harley Williams as the Comets were playing some excellent football. The halftime talk from Ken must have set something in motion for the Asteroids as they came out a different side and looked like scoring on numerous occasions but some poor finishing robbed them of the win. Josh Stubbs finally scored the equaliser for the Asteroids and the game went from end to end with plenty of chances for either side to score the winning goal however defence won the day and score scores remained tied. Best for the Asteroids were Victoria Laurie Josh Stubbs and Cameron Braddley. Best for the Comets were Harley Williams Jodie Balderson and Ashleigh Fry. Final score Asteroids 1 Comets 1
Once again thanks to Corey Pont for refereeing!
ALL AGE
The season has been put back a week due to numbers but a cracking game between the 20 odd blokes and girls who played saw the Maroons go down to the Whites 2-1. It would be fair to say that the warm conditions made it tough in the second half but some nice passing saw some well finished goals scored. If we can keep the interest up we will get this comp under way so if you feel like blowing the cob webs out of your old boots then come on down to the rec. for a kick!
