Soccer reports - Round 13

18 Aug, 2010 02:32 PM
It was a cool day for the round 13 action in the local football season. There were some outstanding games of football with plenty of close score lines and the occasional goal fest to thrill the big crowds.

Our mid term break weekend is this weekend coming so no football until the 28th of August when we take round 14 to Majors Creek. The goals arrived last Saturday and our first trip to Majors Creek should be a fantastic experience for all involved.

The Intermediates will start their final series next round also with some close games expected in the coming weeks. The other divisions don't start their final series until the 11th September but as teams jostle for positions on the ladder some entertaining football should be played in what has been an exciting season.

SUB-JUNIORS

The Subbies were depleted this week due to colds and illness but the willing participants who were there had a lot of fun. The passing and throwing drills are starting to show on the field and some players are calling for the ball which is fantastic to see. The game was very exciting with Alice Tooth having a brilliant defensive game and Leroy Campbell-Davys and Isabella Hindmarsh are showing the determination of champions in the way they both play the game. Josh Clark and Brodie Parsons are developing well as is Max Morris, Scarlett and Jai Bunn and Fergus Tooth who are all contesting for the ball in the game. Bonnie Park, Romany Hunter and Millie Potter are joining in with most activities and when they have the space on the field are very determined to do well. Good work kids!!

JUNIORS

Cubs v Tadpoles

Coming from a disappointing loss last week the Cubs had one of their best games of the season both individually and as a team. The Tadpoles tried hard in defence and made the Cubs work hard for their goals but Lachlan Usher is starting to show the benefits of training scoring all 5 of the Cubs goals. Best for the Cubs were Lachlan Usher, Sarah Walker and Willough Corby and best for the Tadpoles were Georgia Crisp, Jake Waters and Jess Lavis. Final score Cubs 5 Tadpoles 0

Joeys v Brumbies

The Joeys were switched on early against the ladder leading Brumbies and through some good team work managed to score 3 goals, 2 to Thomas Barrington and 1 to Riley Nicholson. The Brumbies attacked strongly in the second half with Georgia Grant and Ryan Castle playing well but the defensive effort of the Joeys kept them scoreless. Best for the Joeys were Riley Nicholson, Thomas Barrington and Anunta Bajracharya and best for the Brumbies were Georgia Grant, Ryan Castle and Ellie Bunn. Final score Joeys 3 Brumbies 0

INTERMEDIATES

Corvette's v Cobras

This was a terrific edge of your seat game with both teams playing fantastic football. Both teams passed the ball well and created plenty of shots on goal but the defence was the winner as neither team could get a goal. Best for the Corvettes were Fynn Walker, Ben Merriman and Lucy Fanning and best for the Cobras were Nick Asimus, Annabelle Jeffery and Andrew Barr. Final score Corvettes 0 Cobras 0

Jaguars v Mustangs

The first half of this game was very even with the Mustangs Callaum Doyle and the Jaguars Jorja Nicholson both scoring for their teams. The second half saw the Jaguars take control of the game with some good passing and teamwork. Jeremy Ramm, Aydan Saad and Emily Lavis all scored to give the Jaguars a convincing win. Best for the Jaguars were Jeremy Ramm, Jorja Nicholson and Aydan Saad and best for the Mustangs were Joel Croxon, Callaum Doyle and Declan Norris. Final score Jaguars 4 Mustangs 1

Vipers v Monaro's

What a cracking game this was! Both teams are gave it their absolute all as the game went from one end of the field to the other. The Vipers scored 3 goals with Harry Shoemark scoring 2 and Romney Smith 1 and the Monaro's replied with 3 of their own with Sam Daniher scoring 2 and Josh Story 1. Best for the Vipers were Romney Smith, Isabella Culmone and Will Shoemark and best for the Monaro's were Josh Story, Sam Daniher and Adrian Holcman. Final score Vipers 3 Monaro's 3

SUB-YOUTH

Rooney's v Cahill's

Yet another tight and thrilling game with both of these teams giving it to each other. The Rooney's Courtney Doyle is in good form in front of goal and scored twice to give them the advantage and although the Cahill's Ryan Smithers scored a nice goal for his team it was all they could manage and time ran out. Best for the Rooney's were Courtney Doyle, Ben Howard and Riley Hewitt and best for the Cahill's were Lily Munnings, Edmund Morris, and Ryan Smithers. Final score Rooney's 2 Cahill's 1

Kewell's v Beckham's

Awesome defence from both teams kept the game scoreless however, both teams created some excellent chances and could finish in front of goal. Both goalkeepers made good one on one saves and desperation was the key to neither side getting a lead. Best for the Kewell's were Brooke Clarke, Joel Clarke and Toby Royds and best for the Kristina Holcman, Riley Sheridan and Harry Fry.

Final score Kewell's 0 Beckham's 0

YOUTH

Adidas' v Nike's

This game was very exciting with the Adidas' taking the lead when Sam Moorby luckily slotted in the opening goal of the game. The Adidas' looked in control for long periods of the game but the determination of the Nike's saw them get an equaliser from a own goal and a draw was a fitting result. Best for the Adidas' were Sam Moorby, Dominic Tetley and Zac Faichney and best for the Nike's were Michael Engemann, Michael Ison and Josh Liversidge.

Final score Adidas' 1 Nike's 1

Slazenger's v Pumas

This was a greatly anticipated game with the 2 newest players of the comp being exchange students from both France and Belgium coming up against each other in what became an awesome display of footballing ability. The Slazenger's picked up France's Clement Le Cont 2 weeks ago after losing some players through injury and the Pumas acquired Belgium's Max around 4 weeks ago and their impact for both teams has been awe inspiring for the other players in the comp. The game saw the French/Slazenger's dominate the midfield and take advantage of some great support play and determined defence scoring 7 brilliant goals. The Belgium /Pumas never gave up and scored 2 late goals but the standard of football has lifted dramatically with our European imports showing how to play our beautiful game with style and intensity. Best for the Slazenger's were Clement Le Cont, Brendan Clarke and Harley Williams and best for the Pumas were Helen DeCosta, Emily Malone and Alex Royds.

Final score Slazenger's 7 Pumas 2

Finally, 3 of our girls, Keely Howard, Matilda Corby and Emily Malone went down to Nowra during the week to try out for the Southern Branch teams that will play in Dubbo during October at the NSW Country Championships and they each put in good performances. We wish you well for selection in these district teams. The Cowra Cup was also played on Sunday the 15th of August with 2 of our boys Harry Fry and Mitchell Roberts playing in the under 11's Southern Tablelands district team. The boys played well with Mitchell scoring the winning goal against an under 12 Yass team and Harry playing consistently well throughout the day. Well Done Kids!
