Soccer reports - round 15

17 Sep, 2009 01:30 PM
The round 15 action was the last before the finals start in the 3 older divisions next weekend. The Juniors division has two more rounds and the Storm Hawks lead by four points. Just one more win will see them take an unassailable lead but with the Incredibles in second place and set to play them in the last round the Storm Hawks won't want to leave it till then or they could fall short!

The clashes in all divisions have been great viewing for the spectators and no doubt we will all be in for some exciting football in the coming 2 weeks!

SUB-JUNIORS

A fun filled session was had by all with some very good jumping, throwing and passing but the shooting by everyone was outstanding. Even the littlies are starting to really sink the boot into the ball and make sure the goals rattle with the power they have! The games at the end of the sessions are definitely getting more intense with the younger players getting more involved and keeping the ball on the field more often!

The Blues were short a couple of players but the coach helped when necessary but the Blacks played very well in the early stages of the game and Leroy Campbell-Davys, Isabella Hindmarsh and Harrison Wall all scored early goals. The Blues Jackson Morris and Jake Waters both scored and both Jai Bunn and Imogen Dixon helped out at times. The Blacks scored another 2 goals but the Blues kept trying hard and scored another 2 goals as well but in the end couldn't get another goal to tie the game and the Blacks won 5 - 4.

JUNIORS

The Incredibles v Power Rangers

This was a hard fought game in the strong wind and the Incredibles scored two goals in the first half with the wind at their backs, one to Isabella Culmone and Harry Jeffery. The Power Rangers scored early in the second half after Thomas Barrington slotted in a great goal but the Incredibles Isabella Culmone completed a hat-trick after scoring twice to give the Incredibles a good win. Best for the Incredibles were Isabella Culmone, Jonathon Coe and Shania Morgan and best for the Power Rangers were the Logan Kendall, Georgia Grant and Thomas Barrington.

Final score Incredibles 4 Power Rangers 1

Storm Hawks v Dragon Riders

The Storm Hawks once again showed why they are on the top of the ladder with another consistent performance. The Dragon Riders defence was outstanding stopping plenty of attacking raids from the Storm Hawks but Callaum Doyle still managed to score 2 goals to keep the Storm Hawks on track for the title. Best for the Storm Hawks were Calaum Doyle, Forbes Gordon and Ethan Gray and best for the Dragon Riders were Riley Nicholson, Angus Mailler and Isaac Quattromini.

Final Score Storm Hawks 2 Dragon Riders 0

INTERMEDIATES

Villains v Scallywags

This game was a lot closer than the score would suggest with the Villains taking the opportunities presented and the Scallywags unfortunately missing some of theirs. The Villains managed two goals in the first half with both Mitchell Roberts and Sam Daniher slotting in good goals. The Scallywags tried hard but the final goal of the game was scored by the Villains Emily Lavis which was great to see! Best for the Villains were Emily Lavis, Charlotte Horan and Sam Daniher and best for the Scallywags were Krystyna Garcia, Harry Fry and Tamara McKeown.

Final score Villains 3 Scallywags 0

Bushrangers v Rascals

The windy weather kept the ball on one side of the field with this game and with both teams missing a few players due to illness a very even contest was played out. Harry Shoemark scored early for the Rascals but the Bushrangers stiffened up their defence and Tim Corcoran managed to even up the scores with a great goal from the side of the goal box. The game then went from end to end with both defences showing great character and the game ended in a draw. Best for the Bushrangers were Lillian Leake, Tim Corcoran and Romney Smith and best for the Rascals were Lucy Fanning, Darcy Gordon and Will Shoemark.

Final score Bushrangers 1 Rascals 1

SUB - YOUTH

King Browns v Death Adders

The King Browns sealed top spot after a resounding win. The Death Adders were unlucky not to score more goals but the defence of the King Browns has been outstanding all season. Lonny Sypher scored twice and both Matilda Corby and Tyran Ellison scored one each for the King Browns with some great teamwork creating their goals. Isaac Jullienne scored twice for the Death Adders but it wasn't enough to get them the points. Best for the King Browns were Lonny Syphers, Scott Birkett and Kristina Holcman and best for the Death Adders were Isaac Jullienne, Courtney Doyle and Catherine McDougall.

Final score King Browns 4 Death Adders 2

Taipans v Cobras

The Cobras were down a few players and had to play with the wind in their faces for the first half. The Taipans teakwork was lethal in the first half scoring four goals. The Cobras had a stronger second half but just couldn't get on the score sheet. The Taipans scored only the one goal in the second half but thoroughly deserved the points. Best for the Taipans were Keely Howard, Pip Sherriff and Pat Willding and best for the Cobras were Tahnee Smithers, Kristy Kuhn and Edmond Morris.

Final score Taipans 5 Cobras 0

YOUTH

Hammerheads v Gummy Sharks

The Hammerheads were out of sorts in the first half with a lack of cohesion and the Gummy Sharks capitalised on a couple of chances to score two very good goals to Emily Malone and Tayla Bennett. The second half saw limited chances from both team as a lack controlled play and the wind put everyone off their game. A scrappy but successful win to the Gummy Sharks in the end saw them taking a slight edge into this week's semi final. Best for the Gummy Sharks were Alex Royds, Brianna Pont and Troy Harrison and best for the Hammerheads were Jonathon Bowler, Tamika Murphy and Sam Moorby.

Final score Gummy Sharks 2 Hammerheads 0

Tiger Sharks v Bull Sharks

The Bull Sharks have been the form team but the Tiger Sharks were able to get some satisfaction out of a great performance and take the win. Ned Bott scored the only goal of the game and the Tiger Sharks managed to scramble well in defence to keep a strong Bull Sharks team scoreless. Bring on the finals! Best for the Tiger Sharks were Ned Bott, James Gribble and Kaylah Jullienne and best for the Bull Sharks were Joel Pearce, Claydon Williams and Janaya Faichney.

Final score Tiger Sharks 1 Bull Sharks 0
