On Tuesday the 10th of Feb the Braidwood Junior Soccer Club held its first meeting of the year and a very small band of people gathered to try and get season 2009 on track to be another successful year for Braidwood Soccer!
PLAYER REGISTRATION
This year we will be running our usual rego box at the Bendigo Bank in Braidwood and will also be holding a Registration / Grading Day at the Braidwood Rec. Ground on Saturday the 4th of April between 9am till 12pm. Forms will be available through the school newsletters, at the Braidwood Bendigo Branch or I can e-mail you a copy if you contact me on the below numbers or address.
Please get your forms in as soon as possible so you don’t miss out!
GRADING DAY
Only for 5 – 12 year olds or for players who have not played with the club previously. The main aim of the grading session is to get an accurate ability assessment on each player so that we can, as accurately as possible, slot them into the correct team and division to keep the teams as even as possible. This process will hopefully take less than 10 minutes on the day!
PROPOSED DIVISIONS
Sub-Juniors 3 – 5 year olds (pre-school), Juniors 5 – 7 year olds, Intermediates 8 – 10 year olds, Sub - Youth 11 - 14 year olds, Youth 15 – 20 year olds, All Age (proposed as Futsal stlye 5 or 6 a side).
All divisions are determined on registration numbers.

CANTEEN
Last year’s canteen roster was a success and we hope to have a similar system this year. Last year we had around 45 volunteers which meant each volunteer only needed to put there hand up for around 1-2 hours for the season. Hopefully we can count on your support to our biggest fund raising tool for the year. Please tick the box applicable on your registration form and we will slot you into the roster! Your assistance is greatly appreciated!
COACHES
Using last year as a guide we will require a minimum of 17 coaches for the season. Firstly, you do not need to know anything about the game. The kids will guide you and I am looking at running a coaches night before the season starts to answer any questions you may have or rules you aren’t sure of! Secondly, the only other requirement is a positive attitude and loads of encouragement for the kids in your care and be able to make sure your team is ready to start play on time! Lead by example and your experience will be a joy, win or lose.
REFEREES
We need some people to put their hand up to help with the refereeing of the games. Any child who is 13 years old can actually go for your refereeing ticket in Canberra and the club would fully support you in your endeavours financially! The possibility of match payments is there also depending on further discussions at the next meeting!
If you are interested then please tick the box on the registration so we can discuss it with you before the season starts!
KANGA CUP
The success we have had in this tournament has been fantastic with our girls’ teams coming runners up for 3 years in a row but due to the club not being a member of the FFA then our participation has been halted!
This has opened a few questions as to where do we take the club into the future.
Do we stay a local social club and enjoy a relatively peaceful existence doing our own thing but not being able to participate in any tournaments outside of what we create ourselves?
Do we look at joining an Association such as the Southern Tableland Football Association (Goulburn) or the Eurobodalla Football Association (South Coast) or Capital Football (Canberra) and give a selected few teams the opportunity of a more competitive and possibly representative future in the game??
Do we look at creating our own Palerang Association (subject to approval by the NSWFA) and try and build the game in the shire with a proposed club in Bungendore with benefits for just our local kids?
All these questions generally affect our older players and would not affect the younger players however, we as a committee of 4 people cannot make any of these decisions without our members advice and input. Believe it or not when you sign up your kids to play for this club then effectively you become a member, so your input would be appreciated.
You can contact any of the committee on the numbers below if you have anything to add to this or you can turn up to the next meeting and put your thoughts and views forward! It’s up to you.
