The Braidwood Servicemen`s Club Bears racked up their 6th win out of 8 when the defeated the Boomunalla Raiders 46- 30 at Narrahbundah on Saturday. Supporters were treated to a try scoring feast with the Bears crossing 9 times to the Raiders 6. the Bears led 22- 14 at half-time . The Bendigo Banks best & fairest 3 points went to Matt McCarthy who constantly beat the Raiders first-up defence, scored a great try, was solid in defence at lock . Marty Edwards never stopped for the entire match, grabbed a try and was a constant menace to the Raiders defence. Props Phil Jonas and Steve Clarke made the hard yards up the middle of the ruck in attack and defended solidly and earned 1 point each. Phil picked up the coaches award for his best game this season. Adam Dixon capped off a fine weekend with the players player award. Dicko scored a top 40 metre try, came in from the centres to make heaps of ground in attack off the ruck and combined with his centre partner Edwards to make good ground out wide with the ball.
Coach Steve Piper was satisfied with the win and wasn't too concerned with the Raiders 30 points saying every team has problems combating the Raiders flamboyant attacking style. The win was the first against the Raiders since 1996. Next Sunday the Bears travel to Goulburn to play the Rabbitohs at 1.30 at the Police Boys Club. In pick-a-bear news the jack-pot will stand at $1070 with 8 players in line to give some lucky punter a chance at the pot.
