SO CLOSE

31 Aug, 2006 01:38 PM
We came, we saw, we so almost conquered. The Redbacks played the major semi-finals at Broulee on Saturday. In front of a huge, vocal Dolphin supporter crowd, the game started at a ferocious pace. The Broulee backline threw everything at the Redbacks for 20 minutes, our young backline tackled everything, big wrap for Tim Moffatt.

Finally the Redback forward pack got the upper hand, the rolling maul was unleashed to almost deadly effort 20 metres and so close to the try line.

Half-time and the score was 3-3.

The second half saw no let up in the intensity, the Broulee team ran their backline, the Redbacks rolled in the forwards. Finally in what has become the trade mark play, a lineout saw Captain Coe take the ball, rolling maul Tim Morrison try, 8-3, and time ticking away.

With the crowd getting behind the Dolphins and 5 minutes to go, a back row move saw the Broulee boys score in the corner and the Broulee five eight converted from the sideline, 10-8 final serve - heartbreak.

On behalf of all the players I would like to thank the amazing support we have received this year, the crowds were great. Thank you to all our sponsors.

On behalf of the coach, thank you to all the players for the commitment at training and on game day, it's been a privilege. Hope to see you next season. Thank you Tony Cairns for the coaching on the run in the finals.

Our points went to 3 Tim Morrison, 2 Brendan Maher, 1 Craig Coe 1 pint Morthcot6t and Cairns. Players player Tim Morrison.

Presentation night coming up soon, details will follow.
