Soccer Report for Round 11

17 Aug, 2006 01:42 PM

Our second trip to the Araluen Valley for the season saw a magnificent day with a hint of Spring in the air. The grounds were in the best condition they have been in for some time and the games were all entertaining with thirty goals scored in the seven games.

SUBJUNIORS

The game started with an early goal kicked by Fynn Walker for the Frogs. Tom Cairns managed to save an eager Sam Daniher from trying to score for the opposition. Sam wasn't to be deterred and scored for the Polar Bears later. All players sprinted continuously in all directions over the field.

JUNIORS

Lions v Leopards : The Leopards were down a few players and both Toby Royds and Emily Lavis helped them be a little more competitive on the big Araluen field. The first half saw the game go back and forward with plenty of near misses and good keeping from Josh Story for the Leopards. The second half was the complete opposite with the Leopards running out of puff and the Lions finally steamrolling them with a barrage of late goals. Goals for the Lions were scored by Wyll Holland Harry Fry and a rocket of a goal from Jack Asimus.

Best for the Leopards were Anjali Williams Ben Howard and Mitchell Roberts. Best for the Lions were Toby Royds Harry Evans and Tim Corcoran. Final score Lions 3 Leopards 0

Pumas v Tigers: This was a very one sided game with the Pumas never missing an opportunity and the poor old Tigers spending more time in their defensive half then they would have liked. The Pumas were down a few players but managed to control the game beautifully. Angus Bunn and Adam Craig were on fire in front of goal and both finished with hatricks and Joel Clarke managed to score one also. The Tigers never gave up and found the bigger field harder to plug in defense but the Pumas were merciless in attack. Best for the Pumas were Angus Bunn Adam Craig and Joel Clarke. Best for the Tigers were Forbes Corby Harry Shoemark and Dominic Morris. Final score Pumas 7 Tigers 0.

INTERMEDIATES

Cyclops v Titans : This was definitely a game of two halves. The Titans came out firing in the first half and were quickly out to a two nil lead. The Cyclops were very ordinary in defense and were penalized by the Titans attack accordingly. The Titans Janaya Faichney scored two and Josh Daniher one while Kaylah Jullienne scored for the Cyclops all in the first half. The Cyclops had a real hard discussion at half time and knew that they had could play a lot better. The Titans were on the back foot for most of the second half and Rachel Willard scored for the Cyclops to give them a chance for some points out of the game. Shots were fired from everywhere and unfortunately for the Cyclops they just couldn't get the required third goal for a draw. Mitchell Roberts, playing up from the Juniors for the Cyclops, pulled off two great saves to give the Cyclops a real chance of drawing the game but the Titans held on for a very tough win. Best for the Titans were Cheyenne Whitmore Emma Grant and Will Atkinson. Best for the Cyclops were Tashi Wood-Ward Josh Liversidge and Tamara Roberts. Final score Titans 3 Cyclops 2

Argonauts v Trojans: The Argonauts were without their star player Kate Goodwin due to injury and were soon down one goal with a stunning goal by Luke Hemler for the Trojans. The Argonauts clawed their way back into the game with some solid defense and were rewarded with a great goal to Kaitlyn Harrison. The Trojans gave a good account of themselves and were unlucky not to go into the lead again but the Argonauts stole the victory with a good goal to Andrew Crisp. Best for the Argonauts were Ben Wlasak John Sharp and Patrick Hannaford. Best for the Trojans were Luke Hemler Tahnee Smithers and Scott Birkett. Final score Argonauts 2 Trojans 1

Gorgons v Minotaurs: The Minotaurs were looking down the barrel of a good win after being two nil up after just ten minutes with Dylan Crisp scoring both. However the Gorgons finally woke from their slumber to come away with a good win due to a first ever goal to Ellyse Sharp and a hatrick of goals to JR Morgan. The Minotaurs were valiant in defeat and are not too far away from getting another victory soon if they keep up the effort they are putting in. Best for the Gorgons were Ricky McCurley Ellyse Sharp and Nicholas Toirkens. Best for the Minotaurs were Dylan Crisp Claydon Williams and Rhys Mollart. Final score Gorgons 4 Minotaurs 2

SENIORS

Mash v F-Troop: This was a very close game with both sides having some good opportunities to score goals but the defense of both sides was outstanding. For a long time in the game Mash had the lead and were playing well but F-Troop never gave up and in the last five minutes scored two goals to come away with the points. This was a very close and entertaining game that unfortunately for Mash saw them go from a valuable three points to none in less than five minutes. Best for F-Troop were Alec Kelly Zac Faichney and Matt Dwyer. Best for Mash were Jared Hodgson Coen Bennett and Sam Harrison. Final score F-Troop 2 Mash 1

Dad's Army v Hogan's Heroes: This was a great game to watch with both sides showing plenty of commitment in their tackling and never gave each other much room in attack for scoring. Dad's Army were out to consolidate top spot on the ladder but Hogan's Heroes had other ideas and were a constant thorn in the side of Dad's Army. Hogan's Heroes' Josh Stubbs slotted in a good goal to give them the lead but Dad's Army scored two by Harley Williams and Stevie Whitmore and came away with the points. Best for Dad's Army were Carrie Harrison Harley Williams and Rhys Faichney. Best for Hogan's Heroes were Charlotte McClure Nathan West and Jacob Camilleri. Final score Dad's Army 2 Hogan's Heroes 1
