The rain clouds cleared and the Braidwood Rec was a great place to be on Saturday morning! Round 13 had some great games of soccer with some close and some upset wins which is always good to see. The Intermediates competition has completed the rounds and now moves into the finals next week. The games for the first round of the four week final series will be like this: Argonauts 1st v Minotaurs 6th on field 1 at 9am; Titans 2nd v Trojans 5th on field 2 at 9am and Gorgons 3rd v Cyclops 4th on field 2 at 10am. All games need to have a result and if the game is tied at the end of full time then we go into an extra time situation of two five minutes halves. If the game is still tied then we have a penalty shoot out to determine the winner! There will be no golden goal, so the full ten minutes of extra time will be played. Good luck to each team in what has been an exciting and close competition!
SUBJUNIORS
Damp ground and sunny skies greeted our Frogs and Polar Bears. Lots of running and fun had by all players. Sam Daniher kicked the only goal for the Polar Bears, while Isabella Culmone saw the game finish as a draw after her goal for the Frogs. Lots of penalty kicks and near missed goals by many players. Our thanks to Brian, Jamie, Kylie and all who helped with the game
JUNIORS
Lions v Tigers
The Lions have been a hard side to score against all year with some great defence keeping them in all of the games they have played and the Tigers found it a problem also. As hard as they tried the Tigers were unable to penetrate the Lions defence and with two well struck goals by Wyll Holland and Lochie Ramm the Lions came away with the 3 points. Best for the Lions were Lochie Ramm Toby Royds and Kassie Liversidge. Best for the Tigers were Forbes Corby Harry Shoemark and Riley Hewitt. Final score Lions 2 Tigers 0
Pumas v Leopards
What a game! The top of the table Pumas were out to keep their winning streak going but the Leopards gave them a big scare with an awesome display of great Junior football. The Pumas stung the Leopards into action with 2 early goals to Joel Clarke, whose class has been the difference in plenty of games this year. The Leopards were playing well but the defence of the Pumas was making their task of coming back difficult. The Leopards passed the ball around and managed to create close to double the scoring chances of their opponents but just couldn't manage to get the ball into the back of the net. A well worked team move saw Mitchell Roberts finally crack the Pumas defence and score for the Leopards and with about five minutes to go, all the momentum was on the Leopards side to get an equalizer. However the defence of the Pumas managed to keep the Leopards out and give them a very hard fought victory and keep them just 2 points ahead of the Lions on the ladder. Best for the Pumas were Joel Clarke Joel Croxon and Ben Merriman. Best for the Leopards were Josh Story Mitchell Roberts and Charlotte Horan. Final score Pumas 2 Leopards 1
INTERMEDIATES
Gorgons v Cyclops
This was an entertaining game of football with the difference being the fact the Gorgons had four interchange players and the Cyclops had none. The Cyclops played really well with two good players out this week and everyone playing above their normal standard. The Gorgons were on the back foot for most of the second half after dominating periods of the first and the Cyclops scrambling defence kept them in the game up until about 10 seconds to go when the Gorgons cruelly managed to score and leapfrog the Cyclops on the ladder. The Cyclops paid the penalty of missed opportunities and will be out for revenge in next weeks finals when both sides meet again. Best for the Gorgons were Tamika Murphy Nicholas Toirkens and Ricky McCurley. Best for the Cyclops were Tamara Roberts Sam McGlone and Iesha Haddad. Final score Gorgons 1 Cyclops 0
Minotaurs v Trojans
This was a bit of an upset in the fact that the Minotaurs were coming of a big loss from the previous week and played with a new lease of life. The Trojans have been impressive over the last couple of games but were never in the game with both Alex Royds and Dylan Crisp scoring twice each and the Trojans Luke Hemler scoring a consolation goal in the end. The Trojans need to turn it all around next week as they take on the Titans in a game that could define their season. Could this be the turning point of the season for the Minotaurs as they strike a rich vain of form coming into the finals. Look out Argonauts the Minotaurs are coming to getcha!! Best for the Minotaurs were Alex Royds Dylan Crisp and Brianna Pont. Best for the Trojans were Rachel Grant Luke Hemler and Tahnee Smithers. Final score Minotaurs 4 Trojans 1
Argonauts v Titans
First played second and with just 1 point between the two sides the winner would take the minor premiership. The Argonauts were impressive in defence but managed to score the first goal with a delightful goal from Kate Goodwin. The Titans were in the contest all game and were looking like they may get nothing from it until a stunning strike from Janaya Faichney drew them level with about five minutes to go. An exciting finish to the game but a stalemate in the end saw the Argonauts take the minor premiership. Best for the Argonauts were Matilda Corby Riley Radburn and Justin Stubbs. Best for the Titans were Ashleigh Fry Rowan Brown and Sophie Richards. Final score Argonauts 1 Titans 1
SENIORS
Mash v F-Troop
This was a good game to watch and considering that Mash were down a few players the Intermediate players who came up and helped them did a good job for most of the game. Kaylah Jullienne Sam McGlone Kate Goodwin and Alex Royds enjoyed the challenge but F-Troop had the experience to capitalize on the defensive errors of Mash. Best for F-Troop were Tayla Bennett Alec Kelly and Tara Armitage. Best for Mash were Corey Pont Ned Bott and Kaylie Newell. Final score F-Troop 3 Mash 0
Dad's Army v Hogan's Heroes
Dad's Army were coming off a goal scoring frenzy from the previous week and Hogan's Heroes are starting to turn their season around with some close and hard fought games. Jai Gulia scored both goals for Hogan's Heroes and had his best game of the year to hand a rare loss for the ladder leaders. Troy Harrison kept the scores close after scoring for Dad's Army but it was the underdogs day and Hogan's Heroes came away with maximum points. Best for Hogan's Heroes were Jai Gulia Jaye Coble and Iain Atkinson. Best for Dad's Army were Will Bott Harley Williams and Leith Collard. Final score Hogan's Heroes 2 Dad's Army 1
