Soccer Report

26 Jun, 2006 12:18 PM

It had been three weeks since the last round due to wet weather and the long weekend and all the kids were keen to get back into it again. Some great games were played and some surprising results as we start to see who is going to be a force in season 2006.

SUBJUNIORS

Action was a-plenty, with Sam Daniher having a near miss before scoring the first goal of the day for the Polar Bears. The ball was frequently tossed back onto the field, thanks to players such as Lily Morris and Tom Cairns. A goal was then kicked for Polar Bears by Isaac Quattromini before Sam scored his second goal. Jeremy Ramm defended goals superbly for the Frogs. Isabella Culmone scored the first and only goal for the Frogs. Heidi Lindner, Fynn Walker and Morgan Griffin all came close to scoring for their teams during the game. The spectators and supporters were entertained by players tumbling and chatting.

JUNIORS

Leopards v Tigers : This was a great game with plenty of running from both sides. The game resembled a rolling maul at times with all the kids keen on getting a touch of the ball. Both sides didn't get many shots on goals but there was plenty of effort put in by all. Best for the Leopards were Edward Horan Kelly Liversidge and Ben Howard. Best for the Tigers were Forbes Corby Matthew Royds and Alexander Rush. Final score Leopards 0 Tigers 0

Lions v Pumas: The Pumas were a few players short which definitely affected them during the game. The Pumas had not lost a game in the first 4 rounds and were keen to keep their winning streak continuing. The Lions however have been improving every week and played an outstanding game. Harry Fry scored twice and Lochlan Ramm once in a solid performance. The Pumas didn't give in but the defence of the Lions was too good for the might of the Pumas. Best for the Lions were Harry Fry Lochlan Ramm and Emily Lavis. Best for the Pumas were Joel Clarke Ryan Smithers and Abby Coleman. Final score Lions 3 Pumas 0.

INTERMEDIATES

Cyclops v Titans: This game started slowly with the pitch being a little slippery and both sides being a little out of sorts with the 3 week break. The defence of both teams kept the shots on goal to a minimum in the first half and neither side looked like scoring. The second half was almost the opposite with chances being created and a defensive lapse from the Cyclops saw Janaya Faichney slot in a goal for the Titans. Soon after this the Titans were on the attack and Tom Daniher hit the ball from about 25 metres out so sweetly the Cyclops keeper had no chance of getting near the ball and the Titans went further in front. The Cyclops never gave up and spent the rest of the game in their attacking half and were rewarded with a goal to Rachel Willard with about five minutes to go. But the Titans held the Cyclops out and took the points. Best for the Titans were Emma Grant Sophie Richards and Katie Williams. Best for the Cyclops were Jason Nucifora Rachel Willard and Kaylah Jullienne. Final score Titans 2 Cyclops 1.

Minotaurs v Gorgons: The Minotaurs were out to continue their good form but the Gorgons were determined to get the points in a tightly fought game. Zac Bennett showed is striking prowess in scoring 2 goals for the Gorgons and Alex Royds gave the Minotaurs a sniff of a draw with one goal but the Gorgons held on for a close victory. Best for the Gorgons were Zac Bennett Ellyse Sharp and Troy Mundy. Best for the Minotaurs were Kristina Holcman Alex Royds and Dylan Crisp. Final score Gorgons 2 Minotaurs 1.

Argonauts v Trojans: The Trojans before this week had let in 9 goals in their last 2 games while the Argonauts went into this game without having a loss and the Trojans were out to give them their first. The Trojans took the lead due to a great goal to Cameron Bradley and defended stoutly to get the win. It was good to hear the excitement from the Trojans coach Faye Griggs scream out 'we won, we won!!' after the game had finished. Best for the Trojans were Isaac Jullienne Rachel Grant and Scott Birkett. Best for the Argonauts were Edmund Morris Justin Stubbs and Andrew Crisp. Final score Trojans 1 Argonauts 0.

SENIORS

Mash v Dad's Army

What a fantastic game this was as both sides left nothing in the tank in the pursuit of a victory. Dad's Army opened the scoring with a nicely work goal but Mash hit back to equalize. Dad's Army took the lead again after a well worked goal and was looking the better side but to Mash's credit they managed to equalize again. Dad's Army were looking comfortable and managed to take the lead for the third time in the match but Mash would not give in and were rewarded with a goal towards the end of the game to salvage 1 point out of the game. Best for Dad's Army were Troy Harrison Chris Corcoran and Leith Collard. Best for Mash were Jared Hodgson Michael Ison and Kaylie Newell. Final score Dad's Army 3 Mash 3.

Hogan's Heroes v F-Troop : This game had it all, a missed penalty, some great passing and some clinical finishing! F-Troop was on their game and they created some good goals. Tayla Bennett scored twice and Kelly Armitage once to give the F-Troop a handy advantage but the score could have been closer if Hogan's Heroes had taken their chances. Best for F-Troop were Paul Armitage Kelly Armitage and Chris Pont. Best for Hogan's Heroes were Jacob Camilleri Iain Atkinson and Aaron Clarke. Final score F-Troop 3 Hogan's Heroes 1.
