Soccer wraps up for winter term

04 Jul, 2001 08:45 AM
Soccer

This was the final week of soccer until after the school holidays.

Hope everyone has enjoyed their Saturday mornings but I am sure there are some parents who will be pleased for a couple of weeks off.

When we come back there is a whole new competition for the seniors starting, however the best and fairest points and goals will be carried on from the competition just finished.

There is a new draw out as well, which affects all divisions so please take note of when and where teams are now being played.

All games will now be played at the recreation ground and none will be played at the school.

On a different note, bingo is being organised by Mrs Hopkins (who has a grandchild in sub-juniors) and Mrs Saunders at the Centre, Monkittee Street on July 14 at 8pm, with all proceeds going to the soccer club. Supper will be provided (gold coin donation).

If you enjoy a game of bingo or would like to support the soccer club this way, pop along and have some fun.

Juniors

Meercats 3 v Bandicoots 0: Goals went to Luke Clayton 2 and Georgia Toikens 1. Best and fairest for Meercats Phillip Koch, Luke Clayton and Tamara Roberts and for the Bandicoots Emily Hart, Cody Klomp and Iain Atkinson. Meercats put together four passes twice to score great goals. Bandicoots pressed hard and hit the post. A much closer game than indicated by the score.

Squirrels 1 v Mustangs 0: Jordan Stewart scored the only goal midway through the second half. Fantastic game, well contested by both teams, unfortunately there was only one winner, well done Squirrels. Best and fairest for Squirrels were Ashley May, Jordan Stewart and Nathan Oldfield.

Soccer now has a rest with three weeks off. We all start back on July 28. Have a great holiday, see you all then.

Sub-Juniors

Green 4 v Red 0: It started off with a good kick off by Peter Wlasak and a great save then by Ellyse Sharpe. Nicholas Toirkens did some excellent dribbling, with Joshua Goode saving what could have been a great goal. The second half saw Cameron run the length of the field with a great save by Johnathon. Ben Wlasak was then able to throw in and follow up with a goal. There was some good defence by the Red team but after a tough tussle Laura Bawden was able to score. Thomas Roberts was successful at saving a goal. Best and fairest went to Green Peter Wlasak, Rhani Nipperess, Laura Bawden and Red Louella Raynolds, Patrick Hannaford and Thomas Roberts. Next game July 28, check which field.

Intermediates

An acondas 5 v Sharks 2: A great team effort from the Sharks who continue to all turn up each week! This makes interchanges always difficult to contend with. There is still plenty of rounds to go. Goal scorers were Richard Dowling 4 and Matthew Pearson 1 for the Anacondas and Alex Lang scored both goals for the Sharks.

Magpies 4 v Flyers 2: The first half was dominated by the Flyers and they led 2-0. The Magpies regrouped and were able to play themselves into a final winning position. It was a fast moving open style of match. Goal scorers for the Magpies were Luke Staunton 3 and Lewis Kain 1 and for the Flyers, Zac Elliott scored both goals. Best and fairest was awarded to Luke Staunton, Lewis Kain and William Hall for the Magpies and Jess Bevege, Kelly Armitage and Owen Oldfield for the Flyers.

Hornets 1 v Demons 0: A close fast game that could have gone either way. Jake Holland was the only goal scorer for the match. Best and fairest went to Billy Clarke, Michael Bourke and Sarah Weston for the Hornets and Ned Bott, Coen Bennett and Lara Roberts for the Demons.

Warriors 1 v Hurricanes 0: A very close game with only one goal by Jake Williams, in the first 5 mins determining the result. Best and fairest went to Paul Armitage, Johnathon Crisp and Jake Williams for the Warriors and Michael Ison, Harley Williams and Sarah Pearson for the Hurricanes.

Seniors

Jac k Russells 7 v Dalmatians 0: Goal scorers were Aaron McGrath, Chris Pearson both got one and Johnny Butler and Jay Heaney both scored 2 and an own goal was scored. Best and fairest went to Kylie Hodgson, Chris Pearson and Johnny Butler for the Jack Russell’s and Jason Bergmann, Jade Sargent and Nathan Hodgson for the Dalmatians.

Great Danes 7 v Coyotes 3: Goal scorers were Jed Stone 4 and Ben Pritchard 3 for the Great Danes and Kian Donaldson scored all 3 goals for the Coyotes. Best and fairest went to Josh Stuart, Luke Jackson and Hayley McGrath for the Great Danes and Kian Donaldson, Billy Lang and Amanda Bensley for the Coyotes.

Kelpies v Mastiffs: No report received.

Grand final

Jack Russells 1 v Great Danes 0: A very close game with many attempts from Great Danes but unfortunately for them, they were unsuccessful. Jack Russells played an outstanding game with the winning goal coming from Johnny Butler. Best and fairest went to Tim Mayberry, Aaron McGrath and Kylie Hodgson for the Jack Russells and Clifford Radburn, Josh Stuart and Jodie Jackson for the Great Danes.
