As a member of the Dargues Reef Community Consultative Committee and one of the community representatives shown around the Henty mine by Unity Mining on Wednesday, I came away reasonably assured that processing of the concentrate on site at Dargues would not pose any greater risk to surrounding communities than trucking it elsewhere.
Unity Mining has declared war on Majors Creek and Eurobodalla. It seems somewhat ironic that Unity Mining chose the 11th November - Armistice Day - upon which to make public its intentions to significantly alter and amend its mine operations in relation to the Dargues Reef Mine. If these amendments gain approval, it will be the final nail in the coffin for our community and environment.
