Letters to the editor - September 21
The current round of grant applications since amalgamation is in play.
A Shepherd I wish to comment on two letter and an official notice which appeared on p 2 of the Braidwood Times for May 25. These are: - 1. The longer letter by Gill Burke headed “what now?”; 2. The short letter by ex-councillor Paul Cockram headed “Should I stay or should I go?”, and 3. The notice for QPRC or Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council.
Pete Harrison, former Mayor Palerang I guess it can’t be said to have come as a great surprise, but as I have said elsewhere, it was certainly a disappointing outcome, to say the least. With independent financial advice provided to both Councils indicating that a merger would be ill-advised, and in the face of the recommendation from the Independent Local Government Review Panel that mergers should proceed only where they can be shown to make, amongst other things, a “substantial contribution to addressing financial problems” the NSW Government went its own way.
Catherine Moore At a time when large expanses of coral are bleaching, temperature records keep being broken, extreme weather events are no longer unusual, and there is general agreement around the world that we need to move away from fossil fuels, the decision by the Queensland ALP Government and the Federal Coalition Government before that to approve the Adani coal mine is obscene and abhorrent.
