Landscaper and greyhound trainer Trent Morgan, 33, of Orange, was killed instantly and his brother Steven, 38, remains in an induced coma at Westmead Hospital after a head-on collision closed the Great Western Highway at Glanmire for 12 hours.
The brothers were travelling to a Lithgow racing track with two greyhounds in tow, both of which were killed.
Assistant Commissioner John Hartley said the fatal accident occurred when John and Janice Willard, both 73, of nearby White Rock, and Elsie Dickenson, 95, were in a Toyota Camry that veered onto the wrong side of the highway and collided head-first with a Mitsubishi Triton ute carrying the Morgan brothers.
Police said the three all died at the crash site.
Trent Morgan, pictured, a former Canberra Raiders reserve-grade player and father of two, was described by his former rugby league coach and family friend John Hill ''as a great happy-go-lucky bloke who loved to have a good time''.
Police are waiting for autopsy results to determine why the driver of the Camry veered onto the wrong side of the road.
