Palerang Council has now installed its 31.5kW roof-mounted solar array on the Bungendore Council Chambers and as part of the Reneweable Energy Day held last Wednesday the switch was officially flicked to turn the system on.
A feasibility study conducted in 2011 revealed an 18Kw would generate 15% of the electricity consumed by the Bungendore office, with a payback period of less than 4 years.
By the time council called for Expressions of Interest earlier this year the cost of photovoltaic systems had dropped substantially. The 31kW system will cost around 2/3 of the original estimate of an 18kW system, and satisfy around 30 per cent of the office’s power demands. The solar array is being funded by a loan that will be repaid through savings in electricity costs.
