Last Saturday some players were lucky enough to witness the best round of the year when Mike Toirkens won the Medal of Medals with a 72 off the stick and net 64. Great golf! Massey was the runner up and the balls went to the secretary, treasurer, Murray Smith, the Bare-elbow and Tiger Warne. The NTP was the platypus.

Jackie Clark won the ladies competition last Saturday from Robyn Sim. Jackie was also the NTP and won many awards, including club champion at the presentation dinner. Robyn also picked up a few awards in her first year with the club. Congratulations to all the winners and all the workers and organisers, particularly Judy and Gordon Scott.
It was a great evening with the comment of the night not emanating from the usual suspects, Messrs Cansell and Warne, but from the Chief Steward. As Barb Stuart and Don Burke walked up to receive the 42nd awards of their combined golf prowess, Terry noted it was good to see that youth continued to prevail.
The two ball medley multiplier played on November 23 was won by the Hyphenated burglar and the Alliterative West from Terry Hughes and Brendan Booker. Michelle Henry and Les Hart were third with Mike Fitzgerald, Mark Newman, Jackie Clark, Will Richards and Don Burke winning the balls. Brendan was the men’s NTP and the Scotts defeated Barb Stuart and Don Burke in the mixed foursomes.
Rod Coady won the St Andrew’s Day medley stableford from Terry Hughes. He was also club champion. David Goddard, Michael Tillman-Ryan, Will Richards and Keith Ferguson won the balls and Rob Martin was the NTP.
This Saturday there will be another medley stableford with a shot gun start to make sure that dawdlers do not hold up the AGM at five. The Bev Kain Memorial Trophy will be played the following Saturday. The Xmas hamper social get together will round off another good year for the golf club.
This will be the last golf report of the year so a few thankyous and acknowledgements need to be made. To all the golfers who kept the club viable this year by playing regularly, sponsored the Saturday competitions and supported the club in its fundraising and charitable endeavours: thank you.
Thankyou also to the businesses and supporters who sponsored particular events, championships and other special days throughout the year. Golf as we know it in Braidwood could not exist without this internal and external support. Personally, I would like to thank Alex Rea for her willingness to include whatever golf stories emerge in the Braidwood Times.
Finally the dedication and commitment of this year’s committee needs to be acknowledged. The AGM is this Saturday and a new committee will be elected with many existing members again putting their hands up. We cannot take this commitment and interest for granted.
All the very best for the summer solstice and the celebratory season to follow.
