St Omer Bridge replacement

Works have recently concluded on a bridge replacement project for the St Omer Creek crossing on Nerriga Road.  Anyone familiar with the Nerriga Road would be only too aware of the declining fortunes of the former timber bridge in recent times.  “The original structure was a conventional timber beamed bridge constructed by the former Department of Main Roads in 1955” Palerang Council’s Director of Works Mr Gordon Cunningham explained.  “Increases in traffic volumes and loads over recent years had taken their toll on this bridge, so much so that it was essentially self-destructing in service” said Mr Cunningham.
