I'm Matthew Barr, a previous student of BCS and Jembaicumbene local. I am 17, and just finished a year abroad in the United States. My time in the States was amazing. Nothing can truly ever shatter the stereotypes and ideas you have about a country then by travelling to it.

I've just returned from spending a year in Massachusetts with the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program. I studied at an American High School. I watched the football team dominate our opponents, represented Dennis Yarmouth Regional High-school in Tennis and Cross-Country, and was proud just to be a member of my school’s community.
I had amazing opportunities during my stay. My host parents took me to Montreal and Mexico, Rotary gave me the chance to visit the West Coast and see the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. Various people took pity on me and took me around Cape Cod.
Nothing could have changed my life more than doing this trip. I encourage anyone into looking at doing a year abroad. I had the chance to meet many other YE Kids on many other programs, but above and beyond Rotary came out on top. I have to thank the Rotary Club of Bungendore for agreeing to sponsor me and kick-starting this whole process.
