Australian-Spanish joint venture company, EPYC Pty Ltd, is proposing to construct a $400 million wind farm near Tarago, NSW. The proposed farm would contain 110 wind turbines set up to 110m high over 12,000ha, each with three 63m rotor blades, and will be on the properties of 25 landholders in the region.

The Sydney based proponents, EPYC’s Jupiter Wind Farm, say it will also include the construction of access tracks to each turbine, a substation, an onsite control building and temporary storage and concrete batching plants. If everything goes to plan and the eventual Development Application is approved, the wind farm would be completed by 2016.
A spokesman at EPYC said that the NSW Department of Planning have provided a draft set of guidelines for Wind Farms and based on these requirements the EPYC are planning to follow them. The Proposal for wind farm at Tarago is very general and is at the stage of investigation and public consultation. EPYC are planning to meet with the local Tarago community and have information days so everyone who is interested can come along. This is the first wind farm project for EPYC and they are also investigating other suitable locations in NSW for wind farms including near the Hunter Valley.
The Tarago Community, including the Tarago Progress Association and local landholders in the proposed area for the wind farm, are planning meetings over the coming weeks to gauge whether the proposed Wind Farm has their support or if it will be opposed.
Palerang Mayor, Pete Harrison attended one meeting held this week and advised that "It's a bit difficult to tell exactly what's being proposed at the moment. The only meeting the planning staff has had with the company (EPYC) was very brief and short on any detail. I've just come back from a meeting of concerned residents in Tarago, and my commitment to them at this early stage is simply to ensure that this issue is on the table each time I meet with federal or state members."
