All s.355 Committee meetings are open to the public. Persons interested in the operation of the Braidwood Saleyards are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting as observers.
The report set out Capital Costs ranging from $380K to $594k to fix the problems which resulted in the truck wash being closed for several months.
The report Recommended that Council:
1.note the draft NSW Public Works ‘Braidwood Truck Washout and Saleyards First Flush Systems options/concept outline report for trade waste approval’;
2.determine whether it wishes to proceed with a formal application for trade waste approval based on the dual pre-treatment pond model contained in the above document, and
3.determine whether it wishes to proceed with the full study as specified in its resolution 294/2013 of 5 December 2013.
Cr Cockram said “we need to see if we can split the two, then see if we can treat them different ways. The truckwash is the problem and the saleyards are collateral damage. Why do the study before we get to the next stage to see if it’s worth doing it.”
Cr Sweikert argued for the need for a full study into the saleyards.
Director of Works Gordon Cunningham said that “D day is 4th August - if we don’t have a an acceptable solution by then then it (the truckwash) will stop running. There may be some solution where it doesn’t go through the (sewerage) system. Then you have to go through EPA and SCA for approvals. An application has to be one that is acceptable for both of them before the 4th August. And by May we need a waste management plan for the truck wash.”
Cr Hogarth Boyd said “I agree that it is a lot of money but there is a need to come up with a solution for this. I understand a number of community members talked about accepting slurry on their land. There are other models of disposing of this effluent and still meet compliance. “
It was RESOLVED that Council:
1. note the draft NSW Public Works ‘Braidwood Truck Washout and Saleyards First Flush Systems options/concept outline report for trade waste approval’;
2. not proceed with a formal application for trade waste approval based on the dual pre-treatment pond model contained in the above document, pending further investigation and community consultation, and
3. not proceed with the full study as specified in its resolution 294/2013 of 5 December 2013.
