Don’t let yourself get stale. If you feel your game is going badly to pieces, forget golf altogether for a little while, and you will find yourself better able to tackle the problem when you start again. Too much worrying as to whys and wherefores results in hopeless foozling.

So begins page 50 of Sandy Green’s 1925 classic: the Don’ts of Golf. Players last Saturday may have found some good advice here although what exactly is foozling remains a mystery.
The weather was sensational, the course lush and the wind non-existent yet scores were generally poor. When two of the club’s best golfers were asked to explain their scores the response was Brainsnaps! Ah, the interference of the brain in what is not a complicated matter.
Keith North won the day from dad-in-law Les Hart. The balls went to Mark Newman, Donny Burke, the platypus, Terry Hughes and, with 77, Keith Ferguson. No fella managed to land on the green for the short par three and that is very rare.
Debbie Ferguson won the ladies competition from Jackie Clark and Jackie won the putting. This week the ladies and men combine for the BSC president’s trophy. Fortunately it is a stableford event.
The medley 2BBB played on 31 May was won by Keith Morgan and the platypus from Debbie Ferguson and Alec Henry. The balls went to Mike Toirkens, Rod Coady, Keith Ferguson, Keith North and Steve Cansell. Michelle Henry was the ladies NTP and Les Hart, the men’s.

This year’s winter solstice event will be played on Sunday 22 June. All mulligans are invited to attend.
