The Executive Workshop was attended by 20 people from 10 local Landcare groups in the Braidwood district, together with Landcare representatives from the broader region. The groups shared the most significant changes they had achieved in local landscapes and these ranged from tree planting, through creek stabilisation, improving water quality to reducing pest animals and weed problems.
The groups also shared ideas for the next 25 years of Landcare, bringing in ideas for continuing with previous work but also tackling regional food production, climate change resilience and more. These outcomes would require an increase in Landcare momentum, which Upper Shoalhaven Landcare Council is encouraging through as range of current activities supported by grants from the South East Local Land Services.
About 60 people enjoyed the Xmas in July dinner that followed on from the workshop. Food from Vanilla Catering included local produce from Kindrachuk Farm, Hazelwood Farm, Tarago Truffles and Jillamatong Beef.
Entertainment included a visit from Santa Claus who distributed compost worms as gifts for people who had been good to the land this year. Guests also contributed their ideas for Landcare events, field days, training and other products.
Upcoming Landcare events open to all include a Revegetation Field Day at Windellama on July 2 and the Micro to Macro Soil Health workshop on 27 July. Bookings are available through upper.shoalhaven@gmail.com
