Year 5/6 enjoyed their first hands on experience as life as a politician during a visit to NSW Parliament last Wednesday, as part of their week at Camp, staying a Narrabeen.
The Member for Monaro John Barilaro hosted the visit following through on a promise made to the class last year in Braidwood.
“A visit to the NSW Parliament House affords students the opportunity to develop their knowledge of constitutional & parliamentary proceedings including the role of the Governor and the workers of the Parliament,” said Mr Barilaro.
“It’s a great opportunity for students to get a first-hand look and experience the environment of the NSW Parliament, become aware of democratic processes as well as meet other local members and Ministers.”
Mr Barilaro said students were given a tour of Parliament House including a visit to the Chamber to view proceedings, a talk about life as a politician and morning tea.
“During a busy sitting week it’s always a pleasure to meet and spend time with people from the Monaro; I thoroughly enjoyed hosting the students, teacher Germaine Hannaford and Principal Gerard Galvin and I look forward to welcoming other school groups to Parliament House.”
