Could it be that The Bachelor saga is finally drawing to a close?

Even The Project's Carrie Bickmore announced she was passing on the baton as The Bachelor correspondent after Tuesday's show failed to milk any more drama out of Blake Garvey and his romantic debacles.

In a brief five-minute segment on Tuesday's show, following Monday night's tell-all interview with Blake Garvey and his newly revealed lover Louise Pillidge from their Thai hideaway, very little emerged to spark any new fuel for The Bachelor gossip juggernaut.

In fact the biggest sign that The Bachelor barrel was well and truly beyond any more scraping was that The Project's producers had to resort to padding out the segment with soundbites from celebrity fixer Max Markson, who is apparently now Garvey's manager.

In Tuesday's segment, most of which had already been aired in glimpses on Monday, ex-fiancee Sam Frost and runner-up Lisa Hyde gave their responses to Garvey's face-saving claims from The Project the night before.

"For the girls left behind, it was pretty frustrating to watch", Bickmore had announced at the start of Tuesday's slot, but in reality - or the reality of reality TV, that is -  it probably wasn't that bad.

So, to recap, Frost, the 25-year-old ex-fiancee, said Garvey's claims that she had asked him to keep quiet about Pillidge during his first interview with The Project earlier in October was "the biggest load of shit I've ever heard in my life".

Frost added she had had suspicions he was interested in somebody else as being the reason why she was dumped before the finale episode even aired in early October.

"He had said to me that the top four [bachelorettes], he had invested a lot of emotions and feelings into, and when I raised my suspicions with him, he just flat-out denied it," she said.

Bickmore responded: "So you didn't say to him when you do the interview with The Project don't tell them about Louise?"

Frost answered: "I never, ever, ever said that. I would have certainly preferred him to say that because I don't think it would look bad on me at all."

Hyde, a 27-year-old Brisbane fashion designer, who was the second runner-up and at one time rumoured to be pregnant by Garvey, went a step further and said Garvey's escapades were a "web of lies".

Hyde claimed he had contacted her after the finale "quite upset" to ask her if she still had feelings for him and could see a future with him.

"I told him to get lost," she told Bickmore. "I said, 'How dare you say that to me and how dare you ruin the friendship between Sam and I. If you wanted to choose me then choose me as your number one, not your number two. I would never be second to anyone'."

Bickmore then asked Hyde how Pillidge, the show's second runner-up after Hyde, might react to this news. Hyde said she had texted her but had not got a response and said Louise was "a little bit naive" to believe Garvey.

Both Frost and Hyde concluded they wished the couple well, and had emerged with a good friendship with each other.

Cut to Max Markson, to remind us all that reality TV is all about entertainment: "You mustn't forget that it is entertainment and that's what it's about.

"I don't think there's any villains at all. It's just a case of love gone wrong and now there's a happy ending to it all."

Not least to Markson's bank balance, presumably.

Bickmore said she had no idea who was telling the truth, but said she wished everyone a happy life.

"I hope they can all go on and be happy," she said. "I never dreamt I would be The Project's Bachelor correspondent but I've enjoyed my time, but I'm passing on the baton to somebody else."

To which Rove McManus responded with a commendable - and widely shared, one would imagine - sigh of relief. "And rest – it's all finished. Yay."
