With the harmonious tones of “Maher and Me” (Stephen Maher and Kristy Moyle) the popping of champagne corks and an inevitable feast prepared by Vanilla Catering, the race day crowd keenly purchased raffle, sweep and Calcutta horses ready to be a winner.
An Apple I Pad mini donated by Daniel Walker Landmark, a magnificent collection of signed books from Jackie French, this year’s Australian Children’s Laureate, and “The Ballad of Desmond Kale” winner of the 2006 Miles Franklin Award signed by the author Roger McDonald, all created an air of excitement as Anthony Atkinson displayed his auctioneering expertise.
Prizes and raffles drew the attention of the punters as the generous donations from Len Mutton & Co, Jillamatong Farm Produce, Wisbey’s Café & Orchard and Concept Coffee Bar & café went under the hammer.
A parting race goer exclaimed (still wearing their shoes) – “What a fabulous day! Next year I’m making up a table!”
Our thanks to one and all, as it would appear that everyone was a winner on the day from supporters to donors and of course eventually the young people of the district as the funds raised will help provide much needed financial assistance as they pursue their chosen career.
