After the favourable spring and recent rain there are five gardens in top form in the district that will be open for viewing, including two newly opened properties.
MIKABILL at Durran Durra is at 87 Cookanulla Road, 10 minutes from Braidwood.
A young novice gardener has created a delightful and inspirational garden in the bush. Meandering paths wind among plantings of rock roses, bottlebrushes, tea trees and other hardy and drought-resistant plants. Vegie garden, chooks. Lovely views to the Budawang Mountains.

Another new garden is BRIMAR, at 9455 Nerriga Road, Braidwood.
The established garden is carved out of the bush features mixed plantings of exotic and native species. Trees, shrubs and flowers wrap the house and extend out to a bird-attracting dam covered in water lilies. Lovely sunroom garden; stunning views to the Budawang Mountains. Goats, alpacas, chooks and pheasants.

Up the road at LAKE BATHURST, BONGALABI is open at 2789 Braidwood Road.
Glorious spring colour from massed bulbs and 400 roses are a foil for the beautiful mature trees sheltering historic stables, terraces and tea house. Lawns enclosed within mellow stone walls sweep down towards a creek. 'Nancy Hayward' roses emblazon the coach house walls.

Over in Bungendore is PICCOLO, at 36 Turallo Terrace.
WHAT A TREAT. A rambling woodland garden with densely planted areas of colourful and fragrant roses, shrubs, herbs and cottage perennials contrasting with peaceful open areas. Mature Manchurian pears lend welcome shade. Crabapple walk, circular box-hedged 'Sea Garden', Salex caprea, rustic-fenced kitchen garden.

Another newly opened garden is WERRIWA at Bungendore is at 866 Tarago Road.
Beyond a park-like entry and driveway of fine oaks and elms, a traditional country garden embraces an 1882 limestone homestead. Mature trees form canopies over expansive lawns, dry stone walls, gravel paths, courtyards and flower beds. Roses, wisteria, clematis-draped verandahs.
Fundraising from 'in-garden' activities at Werriwa's Open Garden this coming weekend will be donated to the Focus Supported Living Foundation which is a local charity that provides assistance to people with intellectual disability living in the Canberra region.
