I am writing to express my disillusionment with our local member, Dr Peter Hendy, who, after several weeks, and several reminders, has failed to respond to my request, on behalf of Rural Australia for Refugees, to present him with a Petition asking members of Parliament to legislate to change the harsh treatment of asylum-seekers. At Dr Hendy’s staff’s request, I sent him a copy of the Petition so he should be fully aware of its contents.

I can only assume that Dr Hendy is not prepared to present a petition whose terms do not meet with his approval.
If this is the case, he has failed in his duty to properly represent his constituents. They have a perfect right to present petitions to Parliament and one’s local member should be prepared to present a petition on their behalf regardless of its contents.
Once again Dr Hendy has been found to be missing in action.
