The 31-year-old comes into a 34-man squad to replace Billy Vunipola.

Vunipola didn't feature in last weekend's scratchy 28-9 win over Samoa but suffered concussion playing for his Saracens club in their loss to Northampton.

That gives Waldrom a chance to push his cause although it's unlikely he will feature in the 23 to tackle the struggling Wallabies.

Ben Morgan, who started against Samoa, is likely to hold his position at the back of the scrum with coach Stuart Lancaster already signalling few changes.

Waldrom last played for England in his fifth Test in February last year. But he has been the form No.8 in the English club championship, helping his Exeter Chiefs team to second on the table with six wins from eight matches.

Waldrom has scored three tries in the last two matches with his barnstorming running game.

Exeter coach Rob Baxter feels Waldrom deserves another crack with England.

"He's probably been one of the in-form players through this start of the season period who may not get any international exposure, which is a shame," Baxter told BBC Sport.

"But at the same time it's great to see him being recognised and being brought back into a squad that he previously dropped out of."

Northampton five-eighth Stephen Myler, who kicked 16 points for Saints in the win over Saracens, has also been brought back into the England squad after an earlier hamstring injury dashed his hopes of involvement in the November tests.

England reported that lock Courtney Lawes would be treated in camp for a knee injury suffered against Samoa.
