Di Izzard, a stalwart of the community who has spent countless years on the Braidwood Show Society, Braidwood Race Committee, Gundillion Ladies Assoc and many other groups was awarded the Community Bank Outstanding Community Achiever Award at the Bank AGM last Thursday.

The other nominees for this year’s Award, Stephen (Murray) Robertson and Laurie Ffrench received Certificates of Congratulations. All three nominees were warmly applauded for their important and significant contributions to the community.
Braidwood Services Club was the venue for the Annual General Meeting of shareholders and guests of Palerang Financial Services Ltd, the company that operates the Community Bank® branches in Braidwood & Bungendore.
Approximately fifty-five people attended, to hear from the Chairman, Shane Holness and Senior Manager, Craig Pettit.the performance and activities of the Company, The Company has paid a dividend to shareholders again this year, and continues to make a small profit after tax and significant contributions to the community. The Chairman emphasised that the Community Bank® model is designed to return a significant proportion (80%) of profits to local communities through its Sponsorship & Donations Program.
Shane Holness said: “ It has been a challenging economic environment for banking for some years, and the Board of Directors and Staff will continue to investigate opportunities and seek to be innovative to seek growth for the business and consequently deliver increased benefits to our communities.” The Chairman also pointed out that the Directors, who all volunteer their time and expertise, and the Staff represent the most valuable asset of the company, ensuring that personal contact and community needs are at the core of the business.
The Bendigo bank Regional Manager, Kirsty Abercrombie also addressed the meeting and referred to the effectiveness of the Palerang Financial Services Ltd Board as something others can and do aspire to emulate.
The formal business of the AGM concluded with the only one change to the current Board of Directors with the resignation of Ian Cargill who has generously shared his local knowledge and skills since 2011. His contributions will be sorely missed .
Community representatives Joan Webb from the Braidwood Show Society, and Michael Toirkens from the Braidwood Tennis Club were invited to address the meeting and both spoke of how the sponsorship from the Community Bank® was able to be leveraged into further funding for their projects, resulting in much improved facilities for the whole community.
Also invited to speak was Tim Callan, the Braidwood Scholarship winner in 2013. He spoke about his first year studying Agricultural Science at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, and how the scholarship funds has made a difference to his life.
