On Wednesday eighty ladies from as far south as Bermagui & closer on the coast, across to Crookwell, Goulburn and the A.C.T. joined in the Braidwood Ladies Braidwood Community Banks Annual open fours Carnival. Even though it was quite a warm, humid day the ladies all had a great day helped by a delicious ham & chicken salad lunch served up by Jan Broadbent and her willing workers. Winners on the day were ladies from Tomakin, Goulburn, Malua Bay and Canberra.
On Friday night the last night of the Braidwood Bare-Foot Bowls was held with no storm in town but storms all around. A very pleasant evening entertainment was enjoyed as in each week there has seen 48 people on the greens and one of the high lights has been if there was a shortage in a team, new players soon volunteered to make the numbers up.
The winners of this week’s Community Bank $200 was a very popular win with all the teams, when the "Chicks with Attitude" (C.W.A.) team, under the guidance of coach Lauri,e had greatly improved their bowling skill over the four weeks.
The team with also a popular win of the Community Bank $200 for the highest points score of 33 over the four weeks was the Leroys, Skippered by Leroy Campbell-Davies his team of Dad Damian, Nicole Bevege and Pixie Garcia who replaced Robinson-Pont of the previous 3 weeks.
Nick Fry presented the Banks trophy to a very proud Leroy, well done Leroy. The runners up were Braidwood Rural and the Lolly Shop number one team on 32 points.
Thanks go to Gorrie Kite, Barry & Jan Broadbent, Gordon Shorrock and Phil & Therese Lewis for running the Barbecue over the four weeks to feed the players.
What sort of odds could you have got on Friday night that we would be able to play 1 game of 15 ends and 2 of 12 ends without getting wet on Saturday in the Community Bank's Two Bowl Mixed Triples Carnival which we did just by a few minutes. In what turned out to be perfect weather conditions 18 teams (54 Bowlers) graced the greens in what turned out to be a great day of bowls with lunch of Barbecue & Salad from which the players were awaken from & told to rock & roll to beat the approaching storm.
The contestants of the day came from Malua Bay, Canberra & Queanbeyan with several local players in the teams. The winning team of the Community Bank's Sponsorship were Mr & Mrs Naughton & J. Maxwell of Tuggeranong Valley Club and the runners up were local volunteer greenkeeper Steve Piper and his sister Denise and her husband Mike Harrison of Newcastle. This was a very rewarding win as Steve has co-ordinated the voluntary greenkeepers to prepare for this week’s bowls.
Third team was Tuggeranong Valley team of Bev. Jones and Mr & Mrs Goodwin and the last game winners were the Trounsons and Barb.Robinson also from the valley. Thanks go to Les Mundy greenkeeper & Steve Pipers Volunteers for the preparations of the greens.
The Braidwood Bowling Club is very appreciative of the Braidwood & Bungendore Bank for sponsoring the three above events for without the banks support they would not happen.
THANK YOU TO THE BRAIDWOOD & BUNGENDORE COMMUNITY BANK.
