All the best as the silly season rushes towards year end and what a year it has been for the golf club? Mid-year rumours that the Servicemen’s club was in such dire circumstances that it would close with the subsequent end to golf, bowls, squash and all the other things the Club provides.

Through the combined efforts of the Club’s management and a host of volunteers the Club and its associated facilities are still with us and with some luck and a lot of commitment let us hope that this time next year the outlook remains positive.
A great sign for the golf club was the need to hold an election for committee membership at the recent AGM. Many thanks and congratulations to all those who volunteered to steer the club through next year. One of the committee’s first initiatives for 2015 is its inclusion in the Jack Newton Junior Golf program.
This will be held over three mornings from January 14-16 and is available for children between 7 and 13. It is a fantastic opportunity for children to learn about the game and gain expert tuition. The cost of $35 covers three mornings from 8:45 to noon on the above days; a participant pack, presentation and a BBQ. Registration online at mygolf.org.au or contact Rod Coady on 48422829 or the Jack Newton representative, Sue Harrison on 0431550857.
As I walked into the club for the AGM, the Brickie offered an opinion that I was mad. He thought that I was one of the 34 players finishing their round in steady rain to celebrate Bev Kain’s life. The winners of the club’s inaugural stabrose three ball were Robyn Sim, Steve Cansell and Keith Morgan. They won by one point from Peg Job, Romney Smith and Rob Martin. Despite the rain it was a great success and will probably be repeated next year.
Many thanks to Barb, Fran and Judy for sponsoring this extravaganza. Also thanks to Mark Newman for his support of last week’s trophies for the men and ladies. The president capped off a big week with a win with Donna Kuhn second. Lady Shirl warmed up her body with a workout on the Narbethong piano to finish third.
Rolls Royds put theory into practise and blitzed the field in the December monthly medal with a nett 63. Club champion, Mike Toirkens was second and won the singles knockout final against the Bare elbow. The balls went to the platypus, Shamrock and Scotty. This week is a medley stableford Christmas hamper affair in which all players are asked to bring a gift with the carrot being that all players win something.
A welcome initiative this year has been the club’s weekly newsletter that has been put together by the stalwarts of accurate journalism, Jimmy Olsen and Perry White. So if you want a more accurate and less obscure account of what goes on at the golf club you can access the newsletter at braidwoodgolfclub@gmail.com.
Thanks again to the editor for her support of the golf club. Hopefully your Christmas and New Year will be excellent.
