I have just returned from my annual visit to Melbourne. It is a pleasant drive, stopping at intervals to rest or stretch my legs in towns and villages along the way.

The road to Melbourne takes you through some charming historic towns such as Orbost and Stratford - towns on far busier roads than Braidwood. On my journey I did not see one ugly, dangerous or recklessly put together crossing in any town or village I drove through. In fact quite the opposite as all the crossings I saw were a comfortable match of unobtrusiveness and obvious function.
I have to ask the question...why did Palerang Council in NSW get it so wrong when so many Councils in Victoria have got it right? Who did the research for the Braidwood crossing debacle? The pedestrian crossings on Wallace Street are an embarrassment and a failure.
