The Tour is part of an initiative by the NSW Government to build excitement in Regional NSW for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, and also promote the sport of cricket in the State’s regional communities.
“NSW will play a major part in the staging of the tournament by hosting three pool matches including South Africa v West Indies, Australia v Sri Lanka, England v Afghanistan, a Quarter Final and a Semi Final at the Sydney Cricket Ground,” Mr Barilaro said.
Children from Braidwood got the latest cricket tips from Cricket NSW, and were able to view Cricket World Cup memorabilia from the famous Bradman Museum as well as a giant inflatable replica of the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy.
The Home Ground Cricket Tour is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate cricket in Braidwood ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup in Sydney and, give locals a taste of what will be on offer when the ICC Cricket World Cup starts in February.
“Cricket plays an important role in regional communities like Braidwood, and it was fantastic to see local cricketers taking part in games and clinics today,” he said.
The traveling roadshow is visiting a total of 27 locations throughout Regional NSW this summer. It has already been to 14 towns around the State, from Dubbo to Port Macquarie to Bowral. Queanbeyan will play host the tour on Friday. It will conclude in Singleton on 11 February 2015.
