The Australian rapper, who is based in Los Angeles, tweeted that she was annoyed the chain had allowed one of their delivery drivers to give out her personal phone number.

Azalea, 24, explained her outrage in an interview for On Air With Ryan Seacrest.

"I've lived in the same neighbourhood and ordered from the same Papa John's [for a while]... and these guys are always awesome," she said in an interview with the American Idol host on Tuesday morning.

"They have my real phone number but it's not my actual name, I will say that. It doesn't say 'Iggy Azalea' or even [Azalea's real name] 'Amethyst Kelly', it says 'Alejandra Hernandez', as a matter of fact, [who] is my best friend."

While she was a regular at her local Papa John's, Azalea said she had never seen the delivery boy in question, who looked around 18 years old, before.

"He came to my house to deliver the pizza and he was like, "Whose Ferrari is that?!" Azalea recounted, putting on her best exasperated American accent.

Before she could give him the money and run back inside, the delivery boy had figured out he was speaking to the Fancy singer.

"And I was like, 'Eh, gotta go! I'm home by myself and I just want these cheese sticks.'" Azalea joked.

The next day, Azalea's normally private phone number became a lot more popular than usual.

"I started to get a lot of missed calls from a number I hadn't seen before, which is unusual for me because I don't give my number out to a lot of people," she said.

It was when Azalea started to receive text messages from someone who said their brother delivered a pizza to her two days ago that she realised what had happened.

Azalea responded by calling Papa John's – without revealing who she exactly was – and alerting them to the situation.

"I said, 'I order pizza from you guys and I think you guys do a really good job. But, I think you've employed someone new who is absolutely out of his mind, and I'm getting some phone calls and text messages that I shouldn't be getting.'"

The store's manager said the delivery boy, named Ryan, had been hired two weeks ago and would be put on "permanent leave".

However, Azalea was annoyed when, instead of firing the delivery boy, the manager sent a text saying, "Don't worry, I've spoken to Ryan's mother about it and it's all good."

"That was not all good," Azalea told Seacrest. "I don't think speaking to somebody's mother who is a grown adult enough to have a pizza job delivering pizza, is actually sufficient to me."

"I need to know that something is actually happening about people who are thieving people's information. I think that's kind of a serious thing."

Azalea wasn't just concerned for her fellow celebrities.

"I think it's dangerous for other people. If you have a daughter who's 17 or 18 and gets the pizza, does he get that girl's number and start texting her?"

Despite her frustration, Azalea stated that she wasn't going to sue the company. However, she has received some tempting offers for a partnership with their competitors.

"I've been talking to Pizza Hut and I'm a VIP member now," she laughed.
