Uniting Care Ageing NSW/ACT Healthy Living for Seniors program operates across NSW and the ACT and services are now available in Braidwood. One of the additional benefits for the region is the opportunity for jobs growth in aged care.
Locally based and trained support staff will provide assistance either in the home or out and about - whether this be to shop, visit the library, art gallery, cafes, friends or a community event or just having someone to spend time with them for a chat.
Uniting Care Ageing provides community care services that support older people, and their families right across metropolitan, regional and rural and remote areas of NSW and ACT and the Healthy Living for Seniors Program is a flexible and holistic program that promotes wellness, building on existing strengths, improved functional independence, quality of life and social participation. Programs for Braidwood will be tailored to each person’s goals and include a Respite Program for carers and a Social Support Program.
The Respite Program provides those that care for a frail aged person (or for a younger person with a disability) support to be able to take a break and enjoy some time out for themselves.
Taking a break (or having some respite) from a caring role is so important to the health and wellbeing of those that care for others and at times this can be very difficult to do if there is no support at hand.
The Social Support Program enables older people (65 plus), people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disabilities or people who are socially isolated, the freedom to continue with day to day activities and provides opportunities for them to remain connected in the community, how and where they choose to be. It includes home visits from a support worker, community excursions and assistance with shopping or other community appointments. The programs are Australian Government funded and low cost, making them very accessible and easy.
