So, what to do with it? Well, amid all the big names like Twitter, Uber, eBay, Expedia, Instagram and TripAdvisor, there are plenty of handy homegrown apps that are available on the watch right now.

But stay tuned - there are many more in the pipeline. Watch out for a Commonwealth Bank app, and ones from Freelancer and Airtasker.

Woolworths FREE

Woolworths has proven the most digitally savvy of Australia's supermarket duopoly, updating its iOS app with Apple Watch support well ahead of the device's launch.

Users can access shopping lists on the watch, with products sorted into aisle order.

The watch app also shows you where the nearest Woolies is.

Domain FREE

The Apple Watch app from rival property search platform Domain allows users to search and view nearby properties, add favourites, and schedule and view inspections.

Users receive push notifications if there are any changes to inspection times or property prices, and when new properties matching their saved searches are listed.

The watch app syncs in real-time with the Domain iPhone app so users can switch between devices while house hunting.

Qantas FREE

Qantas is the only Australian airline with an Apple Watch app available at launch, though there are plenty of overseas airlines who have jumped aboard, including British Airways, American Airlines and EasyJet.

The app notifies passengers with real-time updates about their flight, including departure gate, boarding time, and any delays or gate changes. It even knows which carousel to collect your luggage from.

Invoice2Go FREE

When Invoice2Go's Australian founder Chris Strode first saw the iPhone, he reckoned it was about to "change everything".

Now he's hoping the Apple Watch will change everything all over again, bringing his $US100 million mobile invoicing app to Apple's first wearable device.

The Apple Watch version of Invoice2Go uses GPS to accurately track how much time you've spent on a job. It will also create invoices with one tap, and alert you when payments are received.

TripView $3.79

The independent Sydney transport journey planning app is now available on your wrist - handy when running for a train or struggling with luggage.

Configure and save favourite routes in the iPhone app, and sort them by distance.

The Watch app will retrieve the next five departure times and platform details for saved trips, while a quick "glance" shows you the next three departure times for your closest saved trip.

Also available on the Apple Watch now are Pulse VIC and Brisbane Bus, free public transport apps for Victorians and Brisbanites, respectively.

Procreate Pocket $3.79

The premium illustration app Procreate was originally built for iPad and had a price to match at $7.49. It was only released on mobile in December, as Procreate Pocket, but already it's been updated to support the Apple Watch.

On your wrist, Procreate Pocket displays a "digital palette" allowing you to paint or draw on your iPhone in full screen, without the app's controls cramping your canvas.

"Tools" mode displays six different art tools to choose from, while "Swatches" mode shows customised colour palettes.

Users can create a new file or clear a current image layer from the watch, as well as track how long a piece takes to create - super handy for professionals who bill by the hour.

Pocketbook FREE

For the budget-focused, this comprehensive money-tracking app makes the most of the anytime, anywhere nature of wearables.

The Apple Watch version Pocketbook includes the app's Safely Spend feature - a simple budgeting tool that lets you check in a single glance how much dough you have left to splurge.

Pocketbook co-founder Bosco Tan said the team would be be monitoring user feedback to "quickly build further additions" to the app.

Westpac FREE

Westpac is the first 'big four' Australian bank to launch on the Apple Watch.

Features include access to your account balance, finding the nearest ATM or branch, and receiving reminders at the airport to advise Westpac of your travel plans - which you can then do via the app.

Other mobile banking apps available on the Apple Watch are Bank of Melbourne, St George and BankSA, all of which are free.

AirService​ FREE

Browse menus of food outlets nearby, then place an order, pay for it and track its status all from your wrist with the AirService Apple Watch app.

AirService is available in participating shopping centres, resorts, office buildings (lunch delivered to your desk!), hotels with room service and also home delivery.

Select venues such as Sydney's Pepper Stadium will deliver your order straight to your seat.

For pick-up orders, the watch app notifies you when your order is ready to picked up.

Realestate.com.au FREE

Real estate search sites Realestate.com.au and Domain* are battling it out for space on your wrist amid Australia's property boom.

The Realestate.com.au Apple Watch app allows users to glance at property details during an inspection, record notes by voice and sync them to their realestate.com.au account, and update a saved property following an inspection.

It also uses GPS to locate nearby inspections while you're on the move - and can give you directions right to the door of the property.
