A collaborative art & music extravaganza by cousins Jenny Boyes and Fiona Boyes will be held at the Braidwood Community Arts Centre this Saturday 2nd May.
Cousins Jenny Boyes & Fiona Boyes are both well-established award winners in their respective fields, but this collaborative event is a first. Live music, new paintings, prints, photography, funky Mississippi-style folk art and installations…the girls have gone bush!
Joining forces for the first time, Jenny & Fiona present ‘Boyes Girls Go Bush’. First-time exhibitor Fiona offers natural history photos to compliment Jenny's paintings, along with a series of Blues Folk Art images influenced by time spent with musical mentors in America. Jenny will also show prints displaying imagery from her newly-published epic fantasy novel series and signed copies of her childrens book ‘Horatio and the Midnight Cat’ will also be available. Solo CD launch concert will follow the art exhibition opening on Sat 2 May.
Jenny Boyes is a noted fine artist and painter. Well known for her sensitive yet bold portrayal of the natural environment, her fearless use of colour and eye for detail bring the natural world to life. Winner of the Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize, her current showing expresses a diverse engagement with the world around her in its range of subject matter, medium and technique. From apple trees to dingoes, brilliant parrots and native orchids, each work is a portrait of the moment.
Fiona Boyes is a distinctive finger-style guitarist, singer and songwriter. With 4 consecutive USA Blues Music Award nominations – and nine previous albums under her own name – her music is influenced by a myriad of traditional Blues music styles from acoustic ragtime to the classic sounds of New Orleans, Chicago and Memphis. Drawing on material from her brand new album, ‘Box & Dice’, Fiona's Saturday evening concert will feature 4 & 6 string cigar box guitars along with a rare National Reso-lectric baritone guitar.
