The 19-year-old Goulburnian won his first state title at the National Capital Motorsports Club's ACT Speedway titles on Sunday.

It could be the last ACT titles run during the day after the club raised more than $150,000 so they could install lights, now they just need to pass noise regulations.

Alessi said night events were massively popular within the sport - not just for the drivers, but with crowds as well.

He joked that he hoped it might take a while to get them installed so he'd have a better chance of defending his title, which he won in his brother's hand-me-down car when he started out about six years ago.

There's no national fours at Goulburn, with Alessi racing in a stock-rod class instead, and he comes to Canberra to "race against his own".

"The place will be packed every night it runs ... it'll change it dramatically around here," Alessi said.

"It's not just Canberra, it's all the people that come here to race too, there'll be people coming from all over the state - Goulburn, Sydney and racers from as far as Victoria and Queensland.

"It's a pretty big thing, racing at night."
