The time and effort drivers put into constructing and presenting their carts seems to grow each year. After Elisa Bryant’s beautiful rendition of our National Anthem drifted down the Gillamatong slopes the Mayor Pete Harrison opened proceedings. The Traditional Carts strutted their stuff and then it was all systems go for the 2015 Braidwood Community Bank Billycart Derby.

The Under 8’s set a very high standard of skill and sportsmanship from the start and it was very clear that all of these youngsters were having the time of their lives. The program then worked through the various categories providing the noisy spectators with some exciting racing.
Piggy from the Braidwood Community Bank kept busy navigating himself thru the large crowd of youngsters.

The Police Radar man was kept very busy and rumor has it that he had to go and get more batteries because of the drain on his equipment caused by the high speed levels. Top speed reached was 45kph !
Frances did a fantastic job at the face painting tent. She did however apparently knock back a couple of Lion’s Club members who lined up as she thought the task too challenging.
Sincere thanks to all volunteers (you know who you are) who in good Braidwood tradition helped out on the day.
Now, go away and lock in the first Sunday of May next year for this great community event.
