The neglected building which had been owned by Palerang Council was slated for demolition in the planning for a new supermarket and carpark. However after a community campaign to save the building, along with number 12 Malbon street, saw the building sold to two local women.
After stripping the brick cladding off, and restoring the building, the cottage now stand proudly within the streetscape.
The National Trust Heritage Awards are celebrating 21 years of promoting excellence in heritage projects across NSW. This year's awards were hosted by the fabulous actor Michael Caton, and the new Minister of Environment and Heritage the Hon. Mark Speakman MP gave his first public speech.
The Commendation was awarded under the category of ‘Advocacy Campaigns’ as “A successful 12 month campaign by locals to save two cottages must be applauded. It goes to show what can happen if we work together.”
