On the weekend the Redbacks hosted last year's premiers, the Taralga Tigers. After a convincing start Billy Halligan crossed for the first try of the day and Haydon Pengelly slotted the ball between the posts to give the Redbacks a 7 nil lead.

Through complacency and not treating the ball like gold Taralga got on the front foot and posted four tries in quick succession whilst only converting one going into the break with a 22-7 lead. With some motivational words at half time from coach Peter Ryan the Redbacks came out firing in the second half. With rugby being played from end to end and after a Tiger was yellow carded the Redbacks started to lift.
Through some strong defence especially from the Moffit brothers the Redbacks were given the ball from a scrum. A slick backline move saw captain Will Hall cross the line to put the Redbacks back into the game. With the conversion hitting the posts and bouncing out the boys were down 22-12.
The game continued as an arm wrestle before Billy Halligan showed some individual brilliance to run 60 meters to score his second for the day. I might add he pretty much carried or held at arms length a defender for 30 meters of the 60. The try went unconverted from the side line bringing the score to 22-17. The boys were in the hunt and could smell a come from behind upset victory when Simon Hopkins crossed the try line only to be denied by the referee. The fairy tale turned into a nightmare when Taralga's half back fooled our tired defence with a show and go to run away and score.
The boys never gave up and left there all on the field but unfortunately Taralga scored again just before full time. In a comeback game from injury Timmy Moffit was the Players Player and also picked up the 3 points for best and fairest with younger brother Nathan getting 2 points and Billy Halligan getting 1 point.
Final Score: Taralga Tigers 36 def Braidwood Redbacks 17.
Tries: Billy Halligan 2 & Will Hall
Conversions: Haydon Penally 1/1 Joel Macpherson 0/2
The boys are heading to Jindabyne to take on the undefeated Bushpigs next weekend. Good luck lads.
