Dale needs three winners at Canberra's Thoroughbred Park on Friday to draw level with Scone trainer Luke Griffith on 52 wins, but he only has horses in five races on the final day of the season.

Bizarrely, the rules don't exclude Griffith from winning the premiership, despite getting a four-year ban three months ago after three of his horses tested positive to the drug ice.

Griffith also tested positive to an unnamed substance, believed to be a methamphetamine.

Dale declined to comment on whether Griffith deserved to win the premiership.

He has had an amazing season, amassing almost as many winners as Griffith from less than half as many starts.

"There's obvious protocols in place through Racing NSW and I'm happy with that," Dale said.

Dale is also in the running for the Canberra premiership, where he was two winners behind Canberra training icon Keith Dryden.

While Dale can win a maximum of five races at Canberra, Dryden has runners in seven and would be favoured to maintain his lead.

Dale said Royal Amati and More Beautiful, who are both in the benchmark 59 handicap (2000 metres), were both chances of saluting, while maiden Bitburg and last-start-winner Itchyzariz were also hopes.

"I think it'd take a bit because Wagga was called off on Tuesday," he said.

"We've had a good season and our strike rate's really good ... I think we've had less than half of the amount of starters as the one above us and the one below us."

Dale will begin the new season by taking Fell Swoop to Rosehill on Saturday to run in the benchmark 75 handicap (1100m).

The son of Not A Single Doubt has won four of six starts, plus a place. The only time the three-year-old gelding missed the podium was a last-start fourth at Randwick three weeks ago.

"I'd expect him to race really well off the back of a sensational run first-up where he was luckless," Dale said.

"Albeit drawn wide [barrier 11] on Saturday, he's a big chance."
