According to the pesky etymologist, David Astle the golf terms ambrose and stableford have odd geographic origins. Ambrose is named after Mary and Richard Ambrose, expat Americans from Michigan who were living in Victor Harbour, South Australia, when they came up with the golf format that bears their name.
