On 28 November Braidwood will celebrate the Twenty First Birthday of the Outdoor Airing of the Quilts. This year the celebrations will be assisted by the “Festival of Braidwood” and is hoping to attract more visitors, not only to enjoy the spectacle of the fluttering quilts, but to celebrate and enjoy our heritage town and all that it offers.

It is hoped that as the “Festival of Braidwood” grows there will be many and varied attractions added to entice people to come and“Eat, Stay, Love Braidwood” as part of the Festival celebrating the Airing of the Quilts.
Braidwood and district has wonderful produce, shops, galleries, places to eat and stay as well as great festivals such as this. The new team at the Visitors Information Centre is ready to spread the word. The Braidwood Community Bank has assisted by providing funds to the Braidwood Quilters Inc and the Visitors Information Centre to market this event locally and regionally.
The Quilters are aiming to have Wallace Street as the jewel in the crown of the Festival.
If you have a quilt or quilts you would like to share to create a new record number for the Airing, Jenny Wallace and her team would love to hear from you. “Together we can transform our historic main street into a sea of colour. What an amazing backdrop our heritage buildings will make” she said. The committee are also busy producing colourful bunting to adorn buildings where quilts are not able to be hung.
Congratulations to Braidwood Central School for coming on board and assisting with the hanging of the quilts on the day. Great to see our young people so proud and eager to show off their town!
Wouldn’t Braidwood look magical if every veranda on every house sported a quilt! Why not dig out Gran’s treasure, the quilt you made years ago or borrow one and hang in on your veranda for the festival weekend. Let’s make Braidwood shine.
Eight billets are required for ladies from the Canberra Craft Groups who are providing exhibitions. If you would like to host one of these lovely ladies please contact Robin Smith.
